Hossier Pass

We are still learning our way around RVing and have traveled up to Breckenridge in just the past few days. We took the "scenic" route out of Colorado Springs and while it was quite scenic it was also a bit scary. Crossing over Hossier Pass and the subsequent descent was nothing short of scary. We could smell out breaks and I'm not absolutely sure my engine brake is working. Our rear wheels were quite warm (hot) to the touch when we finally made it to the RV Park (Tiger Run).

We are thinking of continuing our trip and heading up through Wyoming en route to Polson, MT. Is the Hossier pass experience the worst we can expect? I'm not sure if I want to take on anything more exciting than I've already done.

We're driving a 2011 Monaco Diplomat and towing a GMC Yukon.

Would very much appreciate opinions.
