Any family camping groups located around Houston? We have a 3 yr old and was wondering if any local groups exist?

Thanks

I would suggest you check out Family Campers and RVers at www.fcrv.org
Lots of chapters in Texas.

I am going to join the Gulf Coast RV Club
( www.gulfcoastrvclub.org ) next weekend at their get-to-gether in Beaumont. They are a family group (lots of kids) and they are made up of busy people that work and they take trips that are within 3 hours of Houston. I have never been with them or any other group, but will check it out next week. I have not found any other family groups in the Houston area just by searching the internet.

Well howdy IM4LSU!

There is a group here that gets together OFTEN. If you go to the "South Central Region" you will see posts about several gatherings.

"Link to the South Central Region"

The call themselves the "Texas Boomers".

"Here is a link to the Texas Boomers Web page"

I have camped with this group several times. (And I am a "Swamp thing" from Louisiana!)

They are a fun group. Does not mater if you are "Older" or "Younger", they will welcome you with open arms.

There are several families that are at each gathering.

I am going to "Link" this to the South Central Region as well. I am SURE you will get a bunch of replies tellin ya to "Come on in and sit a spell".

I see this is one of your first posts. So another "Howdy Doo" and "Welcome to the forum" is in order too.

I forgot about the Boomers. I was going to try to go with them this weekend, but my son had knee surgery Thursday and we were not sure how that was going to turn out. I'll try to catch up with them on one of their next outings. I work shift work and weekends off are pretty much a rare thing.

First of all, a great big hearty WELCOME to the irv2.com forum. As you can see, this forum has lots to offer in the way of information and commaraderie among those that participate on the boards! It's a great way to meet new folks from here in Texas as well as across the nation!

Secondly, please do check out the Texas Boomers. I know you are looking for a family oriented group that likes to camp out within a reasonable distance from the Houston area.

Most of our members are "baby boomers" and typically empty nesters, but we welcome anyone of any age group with open arms. We do have several members with teenage children, but most often you'll find the grandkiddoes along having a great time!

The "Rallies" you'll find scheduled all over the State of Texas - most often in areas that require a days drive. The "Area Gatherings" are more local. Since you live in the Houston area, keep watch for the events planned each month that are more in this area with a short drive time.

I am familiar with the Gulf Coast RV group and they are a good group as well. I know they are family oriented too, but I'm not sure how many young children they might have at any of their events. It may be like the Texas Boomers with a small number of younger children.

I know you'll find the right group for your needs and extend this invitation to come meet us any time you can!

We go with both the Boomers and Gulf Coast RV Club. GCRVC seems to have more small children in attendance at most rallies. Lot of members bring grandchildren with them. Gulf Coast has also had some younger members joins lately with smaller children. Both are good groups. We just go to which ever group's dates fit our schedule. Come join us.

Madame Boomer, I do intend to check out the Boomers as soon as my schedule (I work shift work which equals lots of weekends) coincides with one of your outings. However, right now I will be staying relatively close to the Houston area (within 3 hours or so) due to towing vehicle issues.

TexasPSDX... maybe I'll see you this weekend in Beaumont.

Kodiak61, the Houston area Boomers try to do something about once a month, usually staying somewhere in or around Houston. Keep an eye on us here, and we'd love to have you join us. We have a two weekend gathering planned for the 4th of July at Rayford Crossing, in case you've missed it. We just got back from Beaumont and had a great time!

Tell Ron and Mayfield and the bunch from Gulf Coast hello for us.

Hope to see you soon,

Are there any groups for the Austin area by chance?

We try to go out every couple of weeks or so and would like to meet others that like to do the same.

Look under www.fcrv.org
Look under Texas for contacts and contact them.
Ken and Paula Green are the Texas State Directors and they might be able to help you.

Paul,
If you go over to the "South Central Region" of the forums (towards the bottom of the page) you'll see a listing for :Feb.8-10 Boerne Campout. This is the Hill County group of the Texas Boomers and is our first rally and activities of the new year. Would love to have you sign up if you can make it. We have three area groups in the main group, us, North Texas and Houston area.

No Dues, good friendships and lots of food!

You can also check us out at www.Texasboomers.net

Best,
