The Western Pennsylvania Family Campers (not affiliated with FCRV) just had their May Campout at Paradise Lake Park located in New Alexander, Ohio.

Eleven families participated, and we set up our campers in the conestoga-style around the campfire.

Saturday featured a group breakfast, canal tour, and pot luck supper.

The canal tour was hosted by George Miklas. Canal locks built in 1836 were visited in their natural and untouched state. Beaver Creek State Park also has a canal lock with replica doors and visitors can better see how the lock would look and work in 1836. Along the route, we also visited the site where Pretty Boy Floyd was killed by law enforcement as he was eluding capture, and a monument marking the spot that John Hunt Morgan surrendered his Confederate troops to the Union Army (also the location of the Northern-most Civil War battle in Ohio).

More information is available at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Wester...familycampers/

George - this was a nice review of a wonderful campout - looking forward to doing it all again next Mother's Day weekend - so far it looks like Paradise Lake again. Although we didn't participate in the canal tour - it sounded like you really did a nice job and everyone enjoyed it. Hopefully this time some of the Pond Piggies can join us for the campout - that would be awesome!
