Hi, I'd directing recreation at an rv/tent campground this summer. although my professional career was Recreation I always want to hear from folks what ideas they have.
This year I hope to have a little tykes program with story telling, and a water carnival as well as an outdooreducation nature program. Any ideas welcome and Thanks!

We like to take hikes in the woods. Even with our young ones, they enjoy being a part of things. An outdoor nature program would fit well with our approach as well. We like to identify things in nature. We like to try a variety of activities, depending on where we are and what is available.

Happy camping

I would vote for something that would encourage my little ones' curiosities toward nature as well. Also activities that encourage teamwork, like which team can collect one leaf from each different tree and see who can get the most varieties. (Are there some areas that don't allow leaf picking? I am not talking about branches or anything, just one leaf per team.)

I used to have a book full of activities, lost it in Katrina. Yet one more thing I need to replace. When I find a new copy of that book, I will get back with you.

A wonderful family activity for a hot day is a Fire Brigade. Perfect activity before an organized campfire program. (Prizes can be s'mores kits)

Do this on grass so that the lawn is watered at the same time! Make sure All participants know they WILL get wet!

You'll provide 4 clean trash cans ,a whistle, a yard stick or tape measure.

Place two at one end of field-filled with water.
Two empty cans at opposite ends of field-to be filled.

Participants bring unbreakable buckets, cups, pots, pans or whatever from their rig one for each person. (You might bring a pile of asorted containers in case there are those who don't have something)

Devide group into two teams -the more the better-make sure there are an equal number of adults and kids.

One adult -is assigned to each can to ensure water goes into the barrel and that containers start out full.

Line up the teams and tell them they must pass the filled vessels down the line to the empty containers which represent the White House and Buckingham Palace ( or two local buildings or...)
Encourage laughter, shouting and all the noise possible this is a FIRE after all!

First team that transfers all it's water is the MAYBE WINNER Actual Winner is the team with the MOST water in the target can!

That's like the bucket brigade event in our firefighters olympics. It is not only fun for the participants, but is really entertaining to spectators! The crowd will love it!!!
