So what RV did you settle on? Did you sell your sticks and mortar home and what did you do with all the items you collected over the years.

I would have a hard time getting rid of all my "stuff". I would like to do "extended stay" RVing when I retire. Maybe go for a month at a time....but this winter has been very long here in Northern Ohio......I don't mind a period of cold and wet, but I can see where wintering in the south can have it's place....

Congrats on your decision to go FT. You will have the time of your life on the road. Even though gas prices are rising, there are still many ways to make your dreams come true.
We have been FT since January 7th this year. We plan to do a combination of things to stretch our RVing dollars. Workamping, volunteering, and boondocking should help keep expenses down. We still have a lot to learn, but we are having a blast doing it

Congrats.....freedom is the ticket...

we're still waiting for the house to sell,,,,but are checking into subdividing...it seems 10 acres is a little daunting for some people....whatever....5 acres will give us a permanent address and a place to park for free when we're here..

Superslif.....got a chuckle about you might have a hard time getting rid of your 'stuff'....try to remember it is 'just stuff',,,,but storage might be an answer for awhile. We don't have any kids, so we're looking at giving the antiques and large 'precious items' to sisters and their kids....they can pass it down....it was the little stuff that just about drove me crazy,,,,unless it had a family attachment it went...I think I stocked up every friend I have and their kids to every thrift store in the area...I have a 9x11 room that has boxes for storage,,,boxes to take with and I imagine that will get paired down some more after we get the RV packed.....pictures are the hardest.

Good Luck!!! pp

Not long ago I asked my wife point blank if and when I retire would she "Full Time"?? I don't think she would....Too attached to our church.....

I would like to sell our home in the city....and buy something in the country where taxes are cheaper. Like to get something where the property is more natural, with very little grass. So traveling for a month, I wouldn't have to worry about having the grass cut. A nice pad to store a RV also.

Yes, the small stuff would be the hardest to part with. Having a garage sale in a few months, hope to part with un-needed "stuff".

It doesn't look good for you to full time. It take "2 to tango" with this lifestyle.

Hi Superslif,
Let Go and Let God...perhaps FT is something your wife might need to grow into,,,after all,,,God is everywhere,,,,and she would likely be very able to find the same denominational Church to pop into wherever you might be.

As for your stuff...a hint....keep the best of the best and pack it away. then do the 3 or 4 box thing..... give away, friends and fam/thrift stores....keep to take with.....and nobody wants, not good enough for the give,,,but garbage dumps often have a for free spot.....lots of options....but it is a slow process.....and hasty decisions are often regretted.. pp

Full Time Rving isn't for everyone. Getting that out of the way, we wouldn't live any other way!

We've been on the road for ten years altogether, 5 Full Timing and last year we finally had the auction, yard sales, hauled tons of stuff to the Charity Store, and sold our home, (which we had been renting). What a relief!

It hasn't been easy, and there were many pitfalls, but now that we are through it all we have such a wonderful feeling of freedom. Just when we were to leave on the road, my husband had to have emergency major surgery, but we got through it and got on the road as soon as we could. Living in a Fifth Wheel was just as comforting, if not more convenient, to his recovery.

It's so much easier to deal with life's challenges when everything you own is with you and all you are is what you have on you. I used to worry all the time about my possessions getting ruined or stolen while we were far away, now I have it all with me and it shares the same fate I do.

I was a big antique collector and it was hard to say goodbye to furniture I'd had since the 70's, but it was good to see them go on to new people who would cherish them, as I did.

I had a huge craft room I had to pare down to practically nothing, and it has been a challenge to get anything done in the smaller space I have to work in, but I still have no regrets about it.

Every morning we are awakened by birdsong, we can't wait to throw the doors and windows open to let the lake breeze blow through. We join our neighbors for coffee 'an on the "veranda" outside, then lay back and think about what to do for the rest of the day in paradise.

It's wonderful to be at a Resort Campground on a Lake in Florida for the Winter after 50 years of struggling through the cold in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We return to the North each Spring and live on the banks of the Mississippi River in a spot that makes you think "Mark Twain".

Not to make you think we just lay around, we have a business we attend to on the road, making just enough to keep us rolling, and that's fine with us.

I heartily recommend living on the road, it takes a huge adjustment, but it's been worthwhile for us!
