Hi all--I'm wondering if there is anyone on the board that is on the road, full time with their children (school age, that is). We are planning to do this in about five years with our brood and wondering about folks thoughts on 5er or Class A. I'll keep my thoughts out of it so I don't steer the discussion.

We have a solid plan (money, school, etc.), just looking for more insight from those with experience or who have met others in our situation. Thanks.

I'd love to hear of those plans - I'd love to go full time, but just can't imagine me doing the home schooling!

Interested in hearing your plans as well. We have been considering it for 2 years. Wife has a job which she can travel...just unsure of schooling & what I will do to stay sane.

I would say class A
kind of hard to go potty on the road with out stopping in a 5r. Especially with kids .

Also room to move around while on the road.

OK, here's the basic plan:

Retire from military in the next 5-7 years, full-time around the country for a year, using the pension as our income source/budget.

Likely get a 5er bunkhouse with appropriate TV. Use public camping facilites, occasional bookdocking.

Kids are homeschooled already....this is not an issue. Also, they are champion road trippers.

Plan to see significant natural/cultural/historcal sites around the nation with interspersed with occacional short backpacking/bike touring trips. Avoid tourist traps and explore secondary destinations.

I am fulltime with my family of 6 (ds 7, ds 6, dd 3 and ds 7mos). We roadschool and tour in a 5th wheel bunkhouse. We just hosted a rally for families that fulltime and we run a magazine for families living this lifestyle. There's a lot of information there and its a great place to start if you are considering going fulltime with kids.

We have 2 kids that are with us full time dd 4 and ds born oct 2010 plus a dd who is 17 and with us in summer and over Xmas. We have a pull-behind with a bunkhouse and it works pretty well. Wish we'd gone with a 5th wheel tho. They r def more roomy. We never considered a class a because dh already had an f350 dually. The Montanas with 4 slides r nice. Oh and with kids I'd suggest a washer/dryer in ur camper. I spend $30 a week in 2 trips to do laundry 10 miles away. Totally worth the $ to have it on hand!

We are soon to be full-timers. We were already homeschooling. Our son just turned 7.

We full-time with our three girls ages 6, 8, and 10 in a 44ft diesel pusher. The DW is a certified teacher in TX and WY, so homeschooling is very easy for her.

Once you travel with kids in a class A, you will be spoiled and never be able go without. While I drive, the DW watches dish TV, the girls play the Wii or watch movies in their bunks, or play board games at the table.

For me, not making stops for food and bathroom was priceless.
