Anybody installed a safe?

Would like to have a secure location in our Class C for important documents, etc. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good RV safe, preferably fireproof?

There are all varieties of fireproof safes available. A lot depends on the space you have available and how much you want to keep in it. Best location would be to secure it to a frame rail if possible, I imagine.

Amazon.com: fireproof safe

I bought a key-operated fire safe at a thrift store for $2, and screwed it down in an unlikely to look spot.

I put in a wall safe I bought on sale at Harbor Freight Tools. It's inset into the base of the bed platform, off to one side, bolted to the floor. It doesn't stand out when looking at it, even though I didn't try to obscure the front of it. It holds important stuff like passports and some little things like my watch, but nothing really valuable because I don't own anything really valuable. It likely wouldn't deter a skilled professional (who wouldn't be there anyway), but would stop a typical thief trying to grab a few things.

We bought ours at Wal-Mart and have been using it for 8 plus years. We have it in a closet and it is not bolted down. We keep important papers but no money or firearms in it.

Keep in mind that many 'fireproof' safes are only good for 1/2 hour of fire. Read up on them carefully. Don't hide it too deep or you'll never have time to get to it and get out safely. Have you ever seen how fast a RV fire travels?

We kept important papers close to us in our 'get out' bag. If traveling, we'd put it by the front door. When sleeping, we took it in the bedroom. When siteseeing or when the motorhome was in for servicing we took it in the car with us. We really didn't worry about theft which is very, very rare. We just wanted quick access to it. Many of our full-timing friends did the same.

You've got to bolt it down. If a thief sees it, they may well just pick it up and take it along with them. They don't know what's in it, could be cash or jewelry or ??? and they'll break into it later.

Seriously, how many have had a thief in your RV? We've boondocked in the wilds with no one around for miles and never worried about theft.

I installed an in the foundation one under the carpet and it disappeared.

Seriously though, put a fake panel somewhere and hide your valuables behind it.

Astonishing!

Some people are in more urban areas and a little prevention can be worth a lot. I never worried about break-ins when I lived in a house ... until it happened. Wish I had some things in a safe then.

Our rig came with one, it's through bolted to the metal framework over the electric cord reel setup. I suppose someone could get it out but it wouldn't be easy.

We have two and may get another. You can get safes at any hardware store in what ever size fits your needs and install them anywhere or leave them portable.

To some it's piece of mind.

Not all service techs are honest. While we have never had any issues, we know people who have. There is finger pointing and headaches. We take pictures before service and lock everything g else. We have had a screen door broken. Sent pictures to the service manager and they will fix it, no issues or questions.
