Canadian insurance for RV motorhome

Hi
Can anyone recommend insurance company for full time R.V'ers.. First time for us, and appreciate any info for Canadians. Also plan on travelling to states as well---possibly 2-3 months in states, rest in Canada in B.C. and living in R.V.
Thanks.

Can't help with your insurance question , but there is information that you should have with regard to being a Canadian full time RV'er and travel in the USA.
Maintaining a Closer Connection to Canada, is very important, and depending on the questions asked by the US Customs on entering the USA you could be denied entry.
The Canadian Snowbird Association, has information pertaining to this problem on their web site.
www.snowbirds.org

in particular information on the IRS form 8840. Check in the heading bar under Tax Forms.

Talk to BCAA as well. They do their own underwriting and I have found them to be pretty informative.

There are a few factors that will have a major impact on purchasing MH insurance:
  1. Your province of residence.
Insurance can vary a great deal from one province to the next. From your post I am making the assumption that you're a BC resident, like I.
  2. The value of your motor coach.
You will find that some insurance providers will not take coaches over a certain dollar value.
  3. Will you be living in the MH full or part time.
Some insurance providers won't insure for full time use.
  4. Where your coach is stored when not in use.
Some insurance companies limit out of province storage options and require notification of where your coach is stored as well as security related information.

I went through this late last spring and ended up going with BCAA. They has a limit on the coach's value of $150k and over that requires special approval. We had to get that approval but I did not ask about the limit they would approve.

We also checked with several other insurance providers and found the process to be very frustrating. Most small agents simply recommended the sole supplier they use and really did not know much about RV coverage or the differences between one carrier and another. We also found that prices varied considerably, some being 3 times the price for what appeared to be essentially the same coverage.

We insured the MH thru Avieda and this was for the replacement value.

Now we are looking at health insurance that seems to be the best deal thru BCAA

I do not know where u live but we went thru Hub Insurance in Chilliwack B.C., they got me the best deal for our coach.
