Good luck on your decision. I just went through the buying process and looked at both class A's and C's to replace my old 1988 Superchief. Both classes have units that will go nicely in state and federal parks if you select a shorter one. A 30 ft class A can go everywhere a 30 ft class C can. My dad had a 38 ft Newell and spent many years traveling to federal parks. Both have options (or standard depending on manufacturer) of generators, inverters, sat's, levelers, and so on. You want that washing machine then you might just look at the larger A's.

It is true that most Class A's have more external storage bays but not always. The 30 Hurricane I just bought has far less storage than the 1988 Superchief but enough for what we use it for (weekends, short trips). An issue with both Class A and C's that have a lot of storage area is that one tends to fill them up which can lead to an over weight condition. Many larger class C's are close to their weight limits out the door.

On the inside a class A gives a much better appearance of space with that great big windshield, the two front seats turned backwards can be used for extra seatng if desired.

So the net of all this is figure out how much stuff you want to take with you, how much inside space you need, what kind of places do you want to stay in, what do you want to tow. The larger the answer to each of these will of course lead to a larger unit.

Well, we pulled the trigger in Tucson. We went out to look, and ended up buying a unit we never thought we could have. We found a 2000 Holiday Rambler Endeavour, 40 ft dp 37,000 miles. One owner with all manuals and records. We never drove an RV before this, and just liked it up and drove it, Tucson to Cleveland. We are thrilled!

Just to add some thoughts to this discussion. My husband and I are full timers in a 24' Four Winds Siesta, considered a B+ motorhome, with one slide. Less storage, sure, but that's fine, we just don't want to take a bunch of junk with us anyway. Plenty of room for our backpacking gear, both winter and summer clothes, and our two mountain bikes. We've been living aboard for a year now and have never felt like we needed more space. We chose this little RV because it's on the Sprinter chassis, we get 16+ mpg with the Mercedes Benz 3 litre turbo deisel engine, and we can park anywhere, it turns on a dime, it handles like an SUV! No need to tow a vehicle if your RV handles like a vehicle. We have friends with a Class A, and when we go to the National Parks together, they often have to stay outside the park in an expensive RV resort, while we find a dispersed camping spot and stay for free with no neighbors. If you are considering going small, we do recommend that you pick a floorplan with a bed made up all the time, rather than a sofa that makes into a bed. This way you can upgrade to an innerspring mattress, very important for full timers. Anyway, we are big on "smaller is better", and not just to save costs, but to stay flexible and free.
