Oldme,

You know, since you aren't a FT it might be a good idea to actually ask one of us what is required in the states that have most of the fulltimers. I just renewed my license last week. We use our Livingston address which is a Legal Physical Address in the state of Texas. I believe SD and FL have also made arrangements to recognize these addresses as fullfilling the requirements for physical addresses. This is the address we use for voting (Escapees, in fact, has 2 precincts at the RV Park), jury duty, drivers licenses, vehicle registrations.

That's certainly an interesting suggestion / introduction.

Fulltime RV life styles are not the only group that use this. Lot's of Military, Longshore men, oil rig workers, and Cruise ship employees have been doing this for years. They also don't have houses and need a address and a drivers license with a way to receive their mail from anywhere in the world. Like I said, it is legal if done for the right reasons and precedures.

One other thing full-timers might want to look into, is, how will you manage the transition back to a regular residence, if and when you choose to.

What I am suggesting, if it would make a difference, is that the USPS will not accept a mailing service as a point from which to file a change of address (from the Mailing Service to your new home).

In addition, many apartment managers and many mortgage companies often require a 3 year physical address as a condition for approval.

Just suggesting, there are many things to be considered.

I did not ask about your or anyone eases state
simply because the Law I am referring to comes into effect in
ALL 50 state in 2014. I saw what my home state gave as
acceptable documents. I also read on-line the Federal Law.
Neither said anything about exceptions for "full-time travelers".

Because some have renewed their OL does not mean that they
have run into the changes that are Federally mandated. That was
the reason for the wording I used.

Getting back to the original post to this thread. Here is the Kiplinger guide to taxes on retirees to each state. One of the reasons a certain state is chosen.

Oldme,

You stated that no mail forwarding address was acceptable. That might be true for your state, but it clearly isn't for the states where most fulltimers 'reside' - that is one of the reasons that we 'live' in those states, is because they understand fulltimers. Since this the fulltimers section, it would seem to me that one expects people to be talking about fulltimers.

We chose SD with no vehicle inspection. Good mail service.

Ok one more question for only the people that have hand guns. Lets say you live in NY and you have a license. Now you are going to use SD as your new domicile what did you have to do to get a SD license ???

Check this forum, it answers quite a few questions on that issue:

SD for us...works for almost everything; however, if you want a CCP, you'll have to sit in the county of residence (the mail forwarding town/county) for 30 days.

It's on your voter's registration card.

Thanks
We are currently full timing and at this point have MH registered in Washington and Car in Nevada. We will register the car in Washington when we get there as Nevada is to expensive for license tabs.

We have not decided where our official residency state will be as no fixed address hampers voter registration!
