My question would be when you have to budget money for a hotel or you reimbursed for that or is that just your expense?

You might get reimbursed for for these expenses income cases. Sometimes you hear the manufacturer cover costs when correcting defects on new products, insurance might cover other expenses and you might find that coverage with certain kinds of service contracts.

If a person is planning on being a FTer doesn't budget for unexpected expenses then they are probably not prepared for FT life yet. Certainly S&B folks need to be prepared for unexpected expenses but in most cases they aren't having to deal with their living quarters being unavailable.

It is what it is. LOL

For the FT's....what do you do when you have to service your RV?

For routine PM services or elective non-emergency repairs we make appointments- if possible at facilities with hook ups. For unscheduled disruptive repairs we make it clear this is our home and ask for their help to make every effort to stay in the coach. Facilities have been quite cooperative when possible.

Only twice have we had to vacate the coach, for 2 days each time. First when we got towed to a truck repair shop in Oregon late Friday afternoon after closing and had to boondock there until Monday morning. By the time they got to us Monday our black tank was full and they had to order parts. Our service contract paid for two nights at the hotel plus meals. A couple of years later we had to schedule an appointment to replace our main awning after wind damage. The coach had to spend two nights in the paint shop-- no overnighting allowed. This time our casualty insurance paid for the hotel and meals.

There are only a small number of failures that will actually render the coach unusable. For all other things, you may have to be slightly inconvenienced for a while, but you can usually schedule repairs more or less on your own timeline.

Some repair work took us to the cleaners. The shop is Mc Kays RV and Truck Repair in Albany,OR had our unit for 34 days. The shop did not allow anyone to stay due to their liability concern so we had to stay in Motels. The unit had a problem with starting and experts from CAT and others could not identify it, so they couldn't fix. The best part was our Extended Warrenty Company stated that the best we could do was hound the shop. When everything was finally fixed it came down to the "PCV Module, timing module being replaced. The cost for motel was 980.00 and our share from the extended warrenty $2500.00 The company reimburst us $500.00 because that is the limit they will reimburst. So if any problem arrise, we will make sure find a shop that will allows to stay in our coach.
