You can also save money by bypassing the parks and CGs and spending nights at places like Flying-J and Wal*Mart parking lots or on BLM land. No need to spend every night where you have to pay. When I took a cross-country trip in the 1970s we only stopped at CGs maybe once or twice a week to use the showers, do laundry etc. The rest of the time we parked for free as we wandered from one National Park to see the sights to another. We didn't spend more than a few nights in any one place and that was only if we couldn't see everything in one day.
