Full Time - Day Three

We picked up or first RV of any kind in Denton, TX last Friday from I35 RV Center. Good people. Purchased a 2005 Newmar Mountain Aire. Drove from Denton to Bryan, TX in the rain. Missed a turn in Waco and lost a couple of hours. Destination was Brookshire, TX. Weather got bad and we stayed at the Neighborhood Walmart in Bryan. That was our first day in an RV and my first time to drive one. Big day. Second day less eventful, but still had rain on the way to Pearland, TX. Staying at the Advanced RV Resort on the Beltway. Rain storms tonight. I know it gets better and dryer.

I have noticed so far that most RV items are measured in thousands (insurance, setting up car to tow, maybe "extended service/warranties".

At least, the journey has begun.

Congrats on the new adventure. We are starting our 5th year and loving it more everyday. Not looking to end anytime soon.
Enjoy the adventure and have fun.

You'll love your new lifestyle! What are your summer plans? Don't try to cram it all in at once. Don't rely on the interstates. Instead, drive the secondary roads. You'll see more. Also consider volunteering in national or state parks. It's an awesome experience. Take your time and enjoy the freedom.

Most of the summer will be spent finishing up my transition work for my former employer Tuesday through Thursday. We'll be taking many Friday through Monday trips getting acquainted with our coach and what life will be like on the road. Do plan to veer off the interstate quite a bit. There is a lot of America untouched by the interstate.

Congrats and welcome to the fulltimer's lifestyle. You will spend some extra money in the beginning (probably a lot) to outfit the rig and get your toad ready for towing. Hang in there, it will get better and remember it's not the destination but the journey along the way. Best of luck and happy RV'ing.

My wife & I just came home from a 4500 mile trip out to your "neck of the woods", as we say in Tennessee. We enjoyed your state very much. Here are a few campgrounds you might enjoy.
1. Port Lavaca, TX. Lighthouse Beach RV Park
2. South Padre Island. KOA
3. Mission, TX. Chimney Park RV.

Congratulations on your new lifestyle. I hope you get as much pleasure from it as Husband and I do. We'll be back in the Houston area on May 3 (will stay at Green Caye RV in Dickinson) for two weeks. Granddaughter graduates with MBA and gets her Army commission. Big May 16 celebration at our daughter's house in Shadow Creek Ranch (about 3 miles from Advanced RV), then we head out on the morning of the 17th for the Pacific Northwest.

You'll have ups and downs, and in the beginning there will be times you'll wonder what you've gotten into and why you ever thought you wanted it! This, too, shall pass - at least until the next time. We always find that the bad times can't compare with the good, and we can usually look back on the bad ones and laugh.

Best of luck to you, and Happy Trails!

Welcome to the full timer lifestyle. We so enjoy the laid back, relaxed pace that this life brings us. We still work camp in areas of the country we want to explore. This way, we can spend 3-4 months in an area checking out all the places the locals like to go. Remember, it is the journey as much as it is the destination.

txaggie79, we're a couple of steps behind you but on the same path. We just bought a 2004 MADP and I'm winding my work down to part-time to spend more time on the road.

Good luck, congratulations and I hope to see ya out there!

I missed my exit in Sacramento last week and had to go an extra 10 miles to get back on track so don't feel bad about your mistake in Waco.

I suspect there isn't a person on here who hasn't missed their exit once or twice.

Seeings as how you are causing it to rain all the time would you mind making a trip out here to California? I have to reduce my water usage by 36% and if you could make it rain for us we'd sure appreciate it.

Welcome aboard. I hope you like the RV lifestyle as much as we do. We are living at the Advanced RV Resort too.
