Full Time - Exit Plan

First major events completed. 1. Decided where to live. 2. Bought house. 3. Found RV storage. Next strep - stay in house spring and fall during best weather.

What made you decide to leave full timing? Just curious.

Will be 80 in a few months. Been there - done that - seen that and now down to parking all summer and all winter with traveling just between warm winter and cool summer locations. Next step will probably be dropping the winter trip and staying in S&B.

Congratulations on your decision. Everyone needs an exit plan....just in case.

We just retired last year and have been full timing only 14 months and we're still in our early 60s so no plans for exiting at the moment. But we do have an exit plan when we need it.

Re our exit plan. Remember so many folks saying - don't store anything? We paid 2k plus for years for environmental storage. When we cleared it out moving into new house we ended up selling or giving away well over half of the STUFF because it did not fit our new lifestyle. Old house BIG and big yard - new house much smaller and yard smaller that house. Most stuff didn't fit or was no longer needed. Yes there are momentos and memories that need to be kept. Even a computer and two TVs were outdated and need to be replaced. THINK REALLY HARD about what you put in storage.

Excellent advice. We didn't keep a thing in storage.

ctpres - exactly!!! That's why we sold ALL of our furniture!! We do have a very small storage unit, kept our keepsakes, picture albums, and I have a few kitchen items stored in there. We knew our exit plan included settling somewhere with a milder climate than Colorado and also a smaller home. Our plans were to travel full time for years unless something came up. For us it just didn't make sense to pay thousands every year to store furniture that we would have to end up selling half of it because we'll want a smaller home.

We bought a 20' storage container and parked in on our son's 5 acres for storage. The plan is to move the container to our exit full time house if there is room or resell it.

We've been RVing for 10 years. I turned 75 in June and more and more we're thinking of full timing. While I don't enjoy driving as much as I used to, I still love getting out. Hopefully the DW, 20+ years my junior will pick up the slack and we can go, full-time or not, for another 10 to 15 years. While I'm still in good health, based on the death of my 3 older siblings, I know that can change in a heartbeat.
