Hi MXRVER,
I rally enjoyed those pictures, I looked at the map and could not find where that town was. We would like to go to Mexico, what do you have to get to cross the boader. We have heard it is not safe down there? But is it safe where we live also? It takes great people to help others like you did.
Good Post

We have traveled into Mexico a number of times with both our Lazy Daze Class C and our current 38' Kountry Star. We have never experienced anything that we could call dangerous once we traveled south of the border towns. You should use common sense as I know you would do while traveling anywhere; don't go into the rough part of any town. If you are scared, maybe you should travel down with a group like Escapees Chapter 8 the Mexican Connection or some commercial group.

You will need a passport beginning in 2007 to get your tourist visa. You will need Mexican Liability Insurance on any vehicle. Also, you will need to obtain a hologram to affix to each vehicle you take down with you; you will need your state registration for this. Obtain pesos as soon as you can from an ATM machine down there. Pemex stations will not take US or Canadian money for fuel. Always tip the person who pumps fuel into your vehicle. Try to learn some Spanish; don't embarass us Mexico travelers by abusing the Mexicans you encounter down there.

We spent the winter about 1000 miles down the Pacific coast at a place called La Penita de Jaltemba at the La Penita RV Resort. Had a great time. We went down on a caravan that was for 1st timers driving in Mexico. The road is almost all 4 lane toll road, it cost us $123.00 US for tolls coming back but the tolls are worth it in time and nervs. They will probably run a caravan again next fall about the end of Oct. Contact Carole at Carole@lapenitarvpark.com. She can fill you in. We came back on our own and plan on going on our own this fall. Get the book "Travelers Guide to Mexican Camping" by Mike and Terri Church, it is IMHO the best camping guide there is. "On the Road in" by Bill and Dorothy Bell is also a good travel website. Have fun traveling
