Would rather set up our domicle in 2019 in SD but being under 65, there's the managed care issue. SD has no current nationwide PPO plan. Unless this changes, will go with FL.

Since you are already a legal GA resident and GA is more concerned about younger Georgians trying to be Florida residents (183 days rule), I would rent a really small room from a friend or family member who forwards your mail to you as part of the cheap rent. Florida has an advantage of a two year tag (aprox $160) unlike GA’s every year, but you can renew by mail in both states. A GA regular drivers license is good for 8 years and a Commercial license is 5 years.

Since you are not evading anything I do not see a problem. If you decide on Fla make sure you’ve owned all your vehicles 6 months before switching to Fla where you have much the same issues with an address and GA might wonder if you make more than $65,000 as the reason for “moving”.

A recent survey ranked GA as one of the lowest overall taxing states...add the 65 years old income tax exclusion and live in a county with a low mileage rate...it gets even better.

We sold our house in Colorado when we started full timing last year. We chose Florida as our state domicile for several reasons. We have a fairly high retirement income so no state income tax was attractive. We liked the mail service (St. Brendan's Isle) we have down here in Florida which guided us through the whole process of setting up our domicile residence. We spend 5-7 months out of the year down here in Florida and plan on doing that. If and when we settle down and buy another home it most likely will be down here in Florida. The one down side to Florida.....our vehicle insurance went up immensely. In Colorado we paid $480. every 6 months for our 2016 Ford F150 truck. Down here it's $1260. every 6 months!! The insurance on our light weight travel trailer in Colorado was $400 ish a year. That was not for full timing. Down here in Florida it's $612. a year for full timers insurance. Which I thought was pretty reasonable as it includes many things like towing if the TT needs towing, also if it's involved in a wreck it provides money to stay in a motel, etc....
