About 2 weeks ago we made the decision to pull the plug (literally and figuratively) and hit the road full-time as of 1 October '06.

We've finally got the rv of our dreams, and have been 'practicing' with it (and the previous ones) on our vacations/etc for the past 10-15 years. All of our financial arrangements are in-work, as is the final details of the house and termination of my position at work (wife already retired).

So, what the heck am I supposed to do NOW?? The wait is driving me bonkers!!!

Actually it ain't so bad (unless you listen to my wife complain about me getting in the way), I'm just braggin that I'M RETIRING AND HITTING THE ROAD IN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH.

October 1, 2006.

Where will you be the night of October 1, 2006?

Spend the next five weeks looking planning for that. If that is all complete, well then, why are you waiting till October 1?

Besides planning where your going to be I found figuring out what to store, take, sell or throw was the bigest effort. We went full time in June 06 and have been learning alot since then. Tell us were your going, I would like to see your HM and your changes since we have the same make, model and year.

Steve -
I'd turned in the retirement papers to be effective that date, now I sure wish I could move it up sooner. And yes there is a lot to get done by then, but the anticipation is worse than waiting for Christmas as a kid! I keep trying to look forward, but get restless in the meantime.

Dave-
Good to hear from you again. The store/take/sell/toss decision is definitely a big one. I've always been a packrat, making it that much tougher. Wife's kids want a lot of the house-stuff (and maybe even the house itself) but they can't come get it for awhile yet, so it's going to stay in 'storage' in the house.

How's your HR doing? Does it have one of the 'suspect' engine serial-numbers? Mine's an early '06 (built in mid '05) so I missed the problem. We're going to do a big New England-to-Florida loop til the Holidays, and then I don't know what (gosh, that sounds so good to say, instead of something like "And then we have to be back at work on blah-blah-blah..."). Maybe meet sometime 1/2 way?

Impatiently,
Ron

I postponed my retirement for nine months last year for a very good reason, I just can't remember why any more. I know that for everyday of those nine months I asked my self "WHY?"

Our first 8 months of retirement together and our time traveling has been good.

Babysitting our only grandchild has been better.

Good luck.

Good point, Frank, and well-expressed. Some things do sound good at the time, but in the cold glare of the morning may not seem like the best decision to have made.

I just found out that through a fortunate stroke-of-luck for me (something quite foreign most of the time), our HR department made a 'goof' in my benefits package and severance-date, so I get to move the big-day up to 15 September WITHOUT LOSING ANYTHING! Pension, health plan, even a few extra days of paid-vacation!

Now I just have to move that much faster to get it all done and to hit the road asap. But, it also means I can get through this all and on the road that much faster too!

Ron

I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!!!

I'm so excited!!!

But I'm also so busy, I gotta go now. DW has a list of things for me to do that is longer than I can imagine. Is this a harbinger of my future? I thought I retired so I could just loaf around all day. Uh-oh!

See y'all later!
Ron

Congratulations. It will be 2 years for me on Oct. 1. I'm still in the process of disgarding unnecessary stuff and buying tools even though every time I buy a tool I say it will be the last tool I'll ever need.

Hi, We just got back from a trip to Maine for my wifes family. her mother was dying and we didn't take the motor home. On July 31 we had the 100 year flood hit here in the Tucson,Az. They had to Pull the MH out from where it was and put it in a rv park close buy.
We had planned to go to the Rocky Mountain Ramble in Casa Grande. That has been canceled and we have our work cut out for us. The water was in the home and we are still drying out the home. I'm missing stuff and guess what, A Fulltimers policy, does not cover floods!.This is on my tab.We have not made up our minds about whether we will fix or buy new.We really don't want to get rid of this one but I'm not sure if the floor will buckle or not also if the new tile floor will come loose. We will need a new converter and new batterys too. There is a new leak in the roof that I can't find and we've had rain last nite. It didn't leak.?? We will also need the front and rear bumpers replaced. I may have to replace the coolers{oil and trans}I will try and clean and flush them and see if they are usable.
The next item that I'm replaceing is about $2300. worth of tools that went missing...somewhere???? To tell you the truth,I'm very close to throwing in the towel So many things to do, and where do I start?? ....UGH!!!!!!!!
