How much has been added to your rig

Does anyone have the new/empty weight of their rig and the weight it is after being full time for some period. I'm trying to get some ballpark feeling for how much stuff accumulates over time.

We really like the floorplan of one of the 40' Allegro Bus models, but I'm concerned that the carrying capacity might not be enough for the long term.

Estimate 1500-2000 lb/person. The 40' Allegro Bus should definitely have enough capacity.

Yes, I have weighed our rig empty and full. We are carrying a little over 3000 lbs of "stuff."

You shouldn't have any problems with over loading your bus...
We also carry around 2K in gear. Longer trips we may carry about 500 lbs more depending on destination/trip purpose.

I'm trying to get actual as shipped details - including front/rear or better yes at each wheel. Right now the info I have points to 5,000 lbs CCC.

Fuel (150 Gal) is 1175 lbs.
Full water (90 gal) is 750 lbs.

That's about 2,000 lbs.

So, 1500 per person would put us right at capacity. 2000 would put us 1,000 lbs over.

My '02 DS has a GVWR of 31000 Lbs. The UVW (which includes full fuel) is 26300 Lbs, leaving a Newmar calculated CCC of 2974 Lbs.

I have weighed my coach twice in three years, each time with full fuel, full fresh water, nearly full propane, and about half full black tank. At each weighing our gross weight was within about 50 Lbs of 31K, so I'd guess about 1500 Lbs apiece is a pretty good number for this full timing pair.

I have some real number now for the floorplan that we are interested in.

UVW (weight without fuel)= 33960
GVWR = 38600

150 Gallons of fuel = 1066 (Not sure how I got 1175 above)
90 gallons of water = 750
people = 400

That leaves ~2400 lbs for "stuff". i suspect we'll loose a few hundred pounds to solar as well.

I'm also trying to envision what things might present a problem in terms of weight. The only really heavy stuff that I can picture is tools. What else do you carry that's a big hit in weight?

When we ordered our 2002 DSDP the 4090 had an NCC of 5,400#'s so I wasn't worried about the CCC. In fact we lightened the rig by having them remove two walls and two pocket doors. Didn't get the real tile floors nor the Splendide W/D combo either.
When it came in it only had 663#'s of CCC and ALL of that was on the rear axle. In fact it was overweight on the front axle by 50#'s before we loaded anything aboard, not even us aboard.
Newmar did have Spartan install a 14,600# front axle to replace the 12,000 OEM unit. While at Spartan they inspected the whole rig and said the rear axle was a 20,000# unit and there was no reason for Newmar to have derated it to 19,000#'s. When new tires were needed I put new, wider Alcoa's on and went to 305/70 front tires. Ended up with 3,600#'s more capacity so no more problems.

We're still relatively new to living out of our coach for extended periods - so we're still figuring out what "fully loaded" is ultimately going to look like to us. Fortunately, I think we've got a lot of headroom to work with. Just last week I happened to have my reading glasses on and finally read the small yellow sticker on the sliding plexiglass panel on the screen door of the coach - which warned that the maximum carrying capacity of the coach is 3,073 kilograms or 6,774 pounds. It goes on to mention that 100 gallons of water weights 830 lbs ... which I'm interpreting to mean that even with a full load of fresh water, we've still got capacity for 5,944 pounds of "stuff". Obviously load placement and weights per individual axle will come into play - but still, that's capacity for 3 tons over and above a full tank of fresh water. Reading that just added to list of things that make me glad we selected a coach with a tag axle!

Determining if a tag is needed is the issue I'm trying to work through now.

We'd like to stay at 40' or below. We really like the Allegro Bus 40 AP floor plan, but fear that it may not cut it in terms of storage. If they went from a 23,000 to a 24,000 lb rear axle we'd be a little less leery. Depending on where I get my info, there's somewhere between 2,000 and 2,800 lbs of carrying capacity after filling the fuel and water tanks and taking into account passengers. It's not clear that it would be easy to balance cargo front/rear in order to utilize the remaining capacity.

American Coach has a similar setup (we haven't seen it in person though). They offer a 24,000 lb rear axle but 14,600 front (vs the Tiffin 15,600 front).

Newmar offers a 40' tag but we don't like the floorplans.

It seems as if 3,000 lbs is a reasonable number for "stuff" from what I've found so far. If that's a good working number then the current crop of 35-40 foot coaches without a tag seem to leave very little leeway when considering them for full time use.

One thing that caught my eye above..... UVW, as placarded in my '02 DSDP, *includes full fuel*. This may affect your calcs a bit.

Thank you, yes, that's why I specified without fuel. Being off by 150 gallons of fuel is a big difference.

I've been looking for info with full fuel and water but so far have not found it.

I spoke to Tiffin on the phone and they told me the remaining capacity with full fuel and water was 1900 lbs., but they could not give me corner or front/rear weights with full fuel and water.

Getting actual weights from the factory for shipping units seemed to show more capacity. I'd really like to see closer to 4,000 lbs. capacity after full fuel and water.

Our rig has a UVW of 46,503 and a GVWR of 54,000 and a CCC of 6,098. I certainly hope that's enough for full time use although I'll probably have to leave my rock collection at home.
