My wife and I are getting ready to sell our home, move our belongings into a storage unit (SU) and travel full time. We've been unable to find an insurance company that will cover our belongings in the (SU), and the insurance company recommended by the (SU), Tennant-One Direct, is far too expensive.

Does anyone have any suggestions for us? Thank you in advance.

Years ago I worked as an insurance adjuster. The companies had a "marine" policy called a Personal Property Floater which might cover your situation if it is still available. Check with an independent insurance agent, not one who sells for just one company such as State Farm or Allstate.

Be sure to explain your entire situation. For instance, there might be a time limit on how long coverage would apply (such as 3 months) if the property is not in an occupied residence.

If there is no such coverage still available, you will be stuck getting coverage through the storage company. However, again be sure to check on time limits, maximum coverage available, etc.

First, some full timer policies on motor homes provide a limited amount of coverage on stored items.
Second, when we started full timing we rented a space in my daughters house and got a renters policy that also provided coverage on stored items in the rental facility.
Third, when we decided to move to SD, DW contacted the insurance agent and told them we were moving out of state and wanted a policy that would cover our stuff that was in a storage facility in NH. The agent got in touch with the insurance company that had been carrying our renters policy and they agreed to cover it (with a $2500) deductible.
We still rent a space in my daughter's home but do not reside there. The insurance company sends renewal notices and so forth to our mail forwarding address.
We have $100,000 in coverage with an annual premium of $190.
The company is Maine Mutual as I recall.
