Julie in Ohio,
I know you are presenting workkamping in AZ and living fulltime in your RV, what can you tell us about the lifestyle after the few months you've been living it.
I think we'd all like to know if you like what you're doing, if living in your RV is what you'd expected it to be, and do you miss your home and the things you had in your previous home??
Anxiously awaiting to hear your responses.

Hi Frank & Kay,

Well, we've been full-timing here in AZ for four months with the prior 3 months since selling our home in Ohio. We don't regret it for ONE MINUTE! Honestly, there isn't anything that we've missed that we sold and living in the small space is very easy when living in a warm climate.

We do miss our kids but they are flying out for 5 days next week!

I really don't know why others don't do more of this. The relaxation of relatively LITTLE bills and meeting new people, etc. is VERY life-altering. Only problem so far is that I seem to be working more than I had planned here at the restaurant. Iwas supposed to be the LEAD WAITRESS and ended up being the manager.

The people we've met are awesome (we have 28 workampers here at Pueblo El Mirage) and the commraderie built here as well as the friendships will be long-lasting!

JUMP IN AND ENJOY THE FUN! Full-timing is absolutely awesome!

Julie,
So sorry it's taken me so long to acknowledge your response. While the fulltime lifestyle is certainly appealing, especially during the long, cold, snowy, winter, I would have a real problem giving up my house and neighbors. Also, after working fulltime for 25 years and spending the first 18 years of my married life as a fulltime homemaker and mother, working for long hours really doesn't appeal to me. I guess I kind of picture myself sitting in front of a computer and checking people in our out for a few hours a day. I can imagine that would be somewhat fun and interesting.
You are WORKING too much girl, you need to be out in the sun and in the hot tub, not waiting on people and being responsible for a staff and whatever other duties they heap on you. I learned the hard way that the better you are on the job, and the harder you work, the more they expect of you. You are also carrying all of the other people who aren't doing their jobs but management doesn't bother getting rid of them because it's too much of a bother to get somebody new in there and have to train them. Been there and done that!
Keep us posted, I'd like to know how things are going for you.
Kay from CNY
p.s. I read all about you on another RV Journal, don't remember the names but they were looking forward to meeting you face to face. How cool!

Frank & Kay,

All is well here. The weather is awesome and I took the afternoon off and played a little golf. Now that the weather is finally warmed up, I'm going to take more time for ME over the next five weeks until we head back to Ohio.

Truly, we thought the hardest thing would be leaving our friends, but we're finding that meeting all of these new great people, that we miss our friends, but have made great new friends. Our friends at home call & email and we look forward to spending the summer with them before we head back out on the endless highwways.

I told Donny that NO MATTER WHAT, next year, I'm the waitress wherever we are and NOT the manager. (Weak moment) So, next year will be more fun. But, I've earned great workamping experience and a wonderful reference from our employers here, so it was worth it the first year. Especially since we're only in our early 40's and need to have an income!

You may have seen us mentioned on our online friends website, www.itchyhitch.com We finally got to meet them this winter and are still enjoying our online friendship as well as visits.

It's a wonderful world out there! Come join the fun!

Julie,
I think you and your husband are really smart for following your dreams. I guess we are just chicken, the thought of selling the home we've lived in for 30 years, and still love, is scary. As much as we love being out in the RV, and traveling, and meeting people, and seeing everything, it is still intimidating to think about selling out and moving on. I live vicariously by enjoying the tales of people who are doing it, and secretly envy them!! Sorry.
Enjoy.
Kay from CNY

We too are fulltimers and we do volunteer work for a site more than half of the year. But that said, is there some reason for this thread? Why not just send email rather than to share a private conversation on the bulletin board?

Don't mean to come down on ya,Kirk, but ... yes, it could be taken to a private thread. But, thousands of folks are considering fulltiming. It's enlightening to see life from the eyes of those who are doin it. We learn a lot from these kinds of tidbits.
