Funny you should ask and seeing that you are from FL. . . . just got a notice last month that I needed to be in Duval County for jury duty the following Monday. We were volunteering at a National Forest in NC at the time so called the number provided to try to explain the full-timing lifestyle . . . we no longer own property in Florida and now use our daughter's address in Jacksonville for driver's license, tags, etc., although use the Escapee's Livingston, TX mail forwarding address for everything else.
The person I talked to was very pleasant but couldn't get passed the fact that if I use a Duval County address for my driver's license then I am saying that I am a permanent resident of Duval County and as such are required to appear in person when called for jury duty. Of course, we are not trying to get out of jury duty or any other obligations, but with gas prices so high it is a long way to go and not be picked!
She had no sympathy for this logic, but at any rate, she was nice enough to reschedule my date but the latest she could give me was Dec. 15th as I must appear in the year called and I must be there in person or be in contempt of court!
We will be volunteering at a NWR in LA Oct-Dec and planned to be in FL to volunteer at Ocala NF starting in Jan. Turns out, we will just have to be there a few weeks early and spend the holidays with our daughter and family.
We may have to go ahead since we use the Livingston, TX address for mail forwarding, get all our registrations there and be done with it. We hear that Polk County has so many full timers that they are more understanding of the F/T lifstyle and tell you just to voluntarily come in when you are in the area.

Jeeper John,
Maybe you tried to provide too much information. A full time lifestyle is an exciting idea to some, but others just don't really understand what you mean. Perhaps better to just say we are out of town, and sorry we are on a 6 month trip or something like that.

DonnaB,
You are probably very correct, however, when our daughter received the notice she attempt to take care of it for us and had already tried to explain our situation thinking surely ours was unique and therefore "excusable". Next time we may try your method, however, this is the first time this problem has arisen since we began full timing in 1999. Maybe if we only have to deal with it every 9-10 years it won't be as big a problem as it seemed at the time.

My residence is in Arizona so it may be different for you. We have a process to respond by written communication. We both retired on January 4. On Jan. 5th the mail brought me a jury duty summons. We planned to be on the road Jan. 6 and indeed had reservations for the 6th and many other future dates. We did not have a planned date to return to Arizona. The following week I sent a letter to the courts letting them know that we had just retired, we were out of state on an extended trip around the country in our motorhome, we had non-refundable reservations for 3 rallies, but that I felt an obligation to perform my civic duty once we returned, sometime in the future, but no time soon. Rather than ask for a 90 extension, I asked for a lengthy extension. I didn't say I couldn't/wouldn't do it, I gave them all the reasons they should delay it for me. They replied by mail that I was released from this summons, but would possibly be recalled in 18 months.
What a coincidence that I would receive a summons the day after I retire! I was flying so high with excitement, and that just about burst my bubble. It was only for municipal/civic jury duty. A couple years ago I served on a grand jury for 4 months, 2 days a week. That could put a real crimp in my fishing!

I just informed the courts that I was at a job out of state and would luv to attend if they would provide a rental car or plane ticket home. I did not tell them I was workamping. I was over two states away and told them the job would last over 90 days. They said I may or may not be called again.

The laws of your states will certainly vary. I got called last year, to WI. Of course I picked the only county in WI that will actually prosecute you if you don't show up... Not that I wouldn't, I would have actually enjoyed observing the process.
At that time, we were in SC, and I also called the Clerk of Courts, and explained I was out of town on work, and it would be a huge $$ burden to jump a plane home to sit as a reserve juror. I asked what the option were. They would not excuse me, but would extend me up to 6 months.
It worked out that 6 months and 2 weeks was Christmas vacation time, and I had planed to return to WI for that time anyhow. She bent the rules a bit to make that happen.
As with most things, most people are happy to accommodate if your not attempting to take advantage of them, and it is in their power to do so, though I do try not to volunteer too much information as it tends to muddy the waters and make the situation more difficult.

A friend of mine on another forum is a fulltimer, using a mail forwarding address in South Dakota.
South Dakota is so used to fulltimers being "domiciled" there that, when he got his jury duty summons, all he had to do was write "fulltimer" on the back and return mail it and he was excused.
South Dakota has it together for RVers!!!!

Last year I got a summons. I called and explained I was working out of town for the for seable future. And that I get home every other weekend on Friday mornings. I just had to stop in and show my rental agreement for the 5ver 200 miles away. I was excused.

This is a general statement and thus may not hold in all courts.
But usually the jury commission is interested only in that you serve, not exactly when.
So... if I were to get a jury notice TODAY.. I'd respond something like this:
Sir or Madam (I happen to know it's Madam where I get called from)
I am currently vacationing out of state and expect to be back around the first of May.. May I please re-schedule for sometime between May 1 and Labor day.. Thank you.
And... She told me.. She will grant ONE delay per year
Since I only have to serve one day per year in my court (or one trial) I'm good to go till summer that way.
