Land Owners and RV Living
We are wanting to be full time RVers, and I had NO IDEA how frustrating it was going to be to start living this lifestyle!
We have SO MUCH to learn!!!
I thought that we could just find a piece of land to buy and create our own little RV camp to live on---But I am quickly learning that this plan is not going to work. I have been trying to find 'unrestricted' land in the area that we would like to live, and have found just this a little difficult to find, but when I finally found a couple of plots of land, now I have been informed that full-time living in an RV is not legal---You cannot hook up an RV to a septic system, or to a well--
So, do any of you have any ideas for us, so that we can still live our dream?

Building codes can be very restrictive. However the larger the property, like 5 or more acres you will usually be less restricted. Some codes allow you to build slowly over a number of years. IE septic and garage and utilities and temporary rv permit while you build a house. I know one couple who have been building their house for 15 yrs and they never got past the garage stage. They just keep renewing their building and temp rv permits. Their build site cannot be seen from the main road so that may be partly why. No neighbor complaints. You can get permits for septic, well, propane tank and utilities without an actual building permit and building fees. You just have to tell them what they want to hear. Plant some trees and call it a tree farm with al the necessary utilities and out buildings needed to run your business.

Build “docking station” which might consist of a pad for the RV, a small permanent storage style building to contain a bathroom, kitchen/washroom, sitting/dining/sleeping area and provide plumbing, electrical to the extent it meets code. Make sure there is a clean out for the septic tank that you can use for the RV, an outside 30/50 amp receptacle for power, and a water spigot.
A friend of ours ran into a similar situation in WV and from what I hear from them as long as the above described structure is fully self contained, meets code, then it should work.

We started with a small barn, Well, septic system, electric service. We installed a small bathroom with a shower. The land was zoned agriculture. If you are full timers you will travel right? As long as officials see your RV as temporary I see no problem. Nothing says you have to build a house on a piece of land.

Not all full timers travel or so I’ve been told but they do live full time in a RV.

I agree with you but if you make it look like a permanent resident most counties will balk at it.

Yes, we plan on traveling several times a year, but I love to do gardening and would also like to have a small greenhouse...maybe grow a few things to sell at a farmer's market to earn a little extra money. We have several children and grandchildren and they are scattered across the U.S., so we would mainly travel to visit with them.
But after researching monthly rental costs for many RV Parks, I felt that it would be much cheaper to have a home base and nice to still have our hobbies available to us.

Have you considered doing Camp hosting? There are several places public and private....
As far as the hooking up to a sewer....We drag out the hoses and dump when full
