First of all, English is not my native tongue so sorry for all the errors in the text.
I’m a Danish master student in social science and geography. I’m going to write my thesis soon and I decided to write it on the RV society in Quartzsite Arizona. Therefore I’m looking for people that I can interview about their RV life and their view on Quartzsite
I’m only at the beginning face of this thesis so my knowledge about Quartzsite is limited. I would be very thankful if you could help me by answering a couple of questions.
First of all, I read that there are different groups of people or different societies meeting each year in Quartzsite. I have heard of single RVers and nudist RVers and full-timers like all of you. So my questions are
Do you know were any these groups are located and how I could get in contact with them?
Do you know any other groups that could be interesting to talk to? I would like get hybrid picture of the place.
I might go to Quartzsite alone, so I would also like to know what RV would be suitable for one person. But maybe I should ask that question in a different thread.
All the best

Can't help with your quesitons on Quartzite, haven't been there (yet), but best of luck in your research.
Having no vehicle, here in the US, I'm guessing the best fit for you would be a small Class C motorhome, very common in rental fleets, or perhaps a class B, if you can find one.
My ancesters, on my mother's side, are from Copenhagen. My great grandparents owned a small grocery store there before emegrating to the US and opened same here, in East Providence RI. I never met my great grandpa Anderson, but I remember sitting in front of the store with my great grandma Anderson, enjoying the big bag of penny candy I bought in her store (I always got WAY more for my money than my friends
Again, welcome, and good luck.

Karl,
Your thread interests me for several reasons. I happen to live in Arizona and drive through Quartzsite often. I plan to be there for the RV show in January 2011.
If there are nudists hanging out there I've never noticed.
Some folks do gather there but I don't think they are thought of as a society. Then again, full time and snowbird type RVers may indeed fall into a category thought of by sociologists as a people group or society. In that case folks who join bowling leagues year after year would be a "society."
Mostly, I wanted to respond to you so I would be reminded when others answer your questions.
What you are doing sounds very interesting. Good luck!

Karl, we have here on this site even an RVing couple from DK.
'The Danes are coming'
Class B would be the right vehicle to move around in.
In QS is a BooksalesMAN... nearly naked. Dressed like South Pacific man!!!???? Sorry, don't know how to describe it easier!!!?
Just drive from one RV block to another and you have around 200,000(?) People to talk to?
Good luck

Go over to the Escapees Graduating to Fulltime forum section. Post your question there - this is a section just for fulltimers that group by "Class" as in the year they all start fulltiming and they usually have a meeting of the current group in "Q" each year.

I do have another question off one of yours! About the nudists at Q, do they group by age? If so, can someone direct me to the younger sect, say in the 20s or 30s?
What a question. Nudist at Q.

Yes, there are nudists in Quartzsite. Other than knowing that they have a GTG each winter in the desert around Q, I don't know any other information. If you're really interested, go to the Escapees website and look up the Buff BOF ( Escapees RV Club). Perhaps you can get some information there (of course, in order to attend any of the Buff BOF's GTG's, you must belong to the Escapees).

There are all kinds of groups that have GTG's (get togethers) out in the desert surrounding Quartzsite. I'd recommend just driving around and locating them (usually there are signs out identifying a particular group). Here are the directions to all the BLM areas surrounding Q, both free and fee: http://www.goldledge.com/features/do...m_camping.html

As I said, just drive around in the desert looking for the different groups.

Something small...Class B or a small Class C. However, it's not really necessary to have an RV to visit Quartzsite. There is a motel in Quartzsite and several in Blythe, CA, about 20 miles to the west.
I would suggest arriving in January around the time of the Sports, Vacation, and RV Show when Quartzsite will be bursting at the seams with people. http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/

You may want to start by talking to Peter (I think that is his name. You won't be able to miss him) at the Oasis bookstore in Quartzsite.

His name is Paul...Paul Winer.
The Oasis Bookstore can be found near I-10, Exit 19. When exiting, go north to Main Street and then head west. The bookstore will be on the north side of Main Street.

Welcome to iRV2!
Leave it to me to run across the nudist camp at QZ!
SacsTC and I ventured across a group during our trip in 2009. I mentioned them in the Monaco Quartzsite thread of 2009. The RVing group are not modest but they do have signs (look below) warning people in advance of traveling into "The Magic Circle".
I believe we found the group because we were curious of little signs with arrows. I think they were blue signs of "M" ...standing for "Magic Circle"
The group we found were in the La Posa South area.
I hope this helps!

Thanks to everyone for taking the time answering my questions.
JMonroe: Thanks for sharing your story. Do you know if your grandparents changed their names from Andersen to Andersen when they arrived in the US?
From what I read, I understand that the best time for me to go there would be in January. I think one of the thinks I'll look at, when I get there, is how people organise themselves. Do any of you know if some areas of Quartzsite are more organised then others when it comes to how people camp with their RV's?
I'm still a bit puzzled as to why people actually go to Quartzsite. Is it mostly to meet other RV'ers, is it because of the market and the events or is it something completely different?
About the guy Peter who has the bookshop. Do you know if he is there all year round or is it hist during the winter time?
The Danes Are Coming. Thank for the offer. I'll write you an PM this week.
