Kudos! Is the plan "portable"? That is, does it have a national network of doctors/hospitals so you won't have to pay out-of-network fees as you travel?

My wife and I are in a similar situation. I grew up living a nomadic lifestyle, having lived in 11 western state prior to high school graduation and going straight into the military where I sought overseas assignments, every TDY to new locations I could get etc. My wife of 13 years now on the other hand grew up and lived her whole life within about a 15 mile radius, and thought of moving 35 miles or so away when we married to be traveling a long way. I can do fine in a small trailer full time, she finds our 3,300 sq foot home to be claustrophobic and gets very edgy in the fifth wheel if we're in it more than a few weeks.

We retired last summer and so far have found that trips of 6 weeks or so max work best for us, mixed in with an occasional cruise type adventure or flying to destinations for shorter motel camping stays when funds allow. Fortunately for us, we're located such that there is still a lifetime adventure in exploring within reasonable travel distances for a 6 week trip, and we are planning some longer adventures to the east coast, and Alaska once a couple health issues resolve a little better.

As for the house, we have good neighbors and family in the area to take care of stuff if necessary, an good home automation system to help keep track of things in the house while we're away, and neighbor kids that jump at the opportunity to take care of the yard, shoveling walks etc when the need arises. We spent the last couple years arranging the landscaping to be pretty much be maintenance free for months at a time so their really isn't much of a downside for us to keeping the house other than property taxes, which are not too bad in our area.

We bought a Lazy Daze in 2012 and I became involved in their great online community. Because so many were fulltimers, the lifestyle was "front and center".

We have since switched to a Minnie Winnie, more typical rvers, most have S+B.

If you love your home and can afford to keep it and RV when you wish, stay "part-time".

Renting is not a good idea. Your home will never be the same.

I also have to add that in our case, half-timing or less with permanent S+B, cost about the same as full timing.

Many assume full timing is radically less expensive.

Our numbers proved otherwise, reinforcing our desire to keep S+B.

If S+B is too expensive or not desirable, I can see the benefit of full-timing as an interim life style.

I enjoy reading blogs of FTers, it's an intriquing lifestyle.

it is a tough call.
selling the home security and hoofing it out there with no home base

it will fall into place if you decide you want to full time and flow with the wind and if that is truly what you want, you will settle there and go for it.

if you keep waning back and forth, home might be what you truly want to keep, so keep it

rv life can be set up any way you want

My husband and I have had this same conversation. He would miss his shop and tools. I would miss my friends, community, and church. I would also miss my huge craft area. We also would both have severe difficulties downsizing our heirlooms. So we plan on continuing with our current approach of 4-12 week trips including snowbirding each winter. And I have to admit I have also been subject to the “Oh, you’re not a real RVer since you don’t full-time.”

You can full time, you can part time, you can do it anytime. It’s up to you.
