Part Time Full Timers

My husband and I will be FT in Indiana from June through mid-October beginning next year. We currently have a 34 ft MH (0 slides) which we plan to sell next spring/summer. We are looking at 5ers and TTs. We constantly debate which will better serve our purpose. My question for experienced FTers is this, Are there any TT that are built to live in FT? I know some 5ers are built well enough to "live" in and I am curious as to why some 5ers and TT say specifically that they are not for FT use. Is it due to possible extreme weather or is it some other design/engineering limitations? In Indiana, my biggest concern is tornadoes and I realize nothing is built to withstand that and we should just get out. Other than that, I guess I don't understand why you cannot FT in just about any 5er of TT that is big enough. Please feel free to set me straight.

The biggest problem I have seen with TT is a real lack of storage.

5th wheelers often have a lot of inside storage but not as much outside as Class As - at least that is true of the ones I have seen. What they do have outside is in a couple of large compartments and you have to move a lot of stuff to get to things.

In our 11 years of full timing I didn't see many TTs used. Did see probably about as many 5th wheelers as Class As though.

There's no inherent reason why a high quality travel trailer wouldn't be suitable for full-timing, probably the reasons you don't tend see them in that role is that a 5th wheel tows easier, provide more living space per foot of combined vehicle length and, as above, is usually storage-challenged with respect to a 5th wheel or motorhome. But no reason you couldn't do it if that is your choice... in general whether a vehicle is suited for full-timing has as much to do with the occupant as the vehicle.

Several plastic tubs in the back of the PU, gives more storage!

Since you'll be using the RV only June to mid-October the only concern might be if you don't have double pane windows for the hot summer heat. Of course, if you're in cooler temps - no problem. Any RV would be just fine for you if you think you'll have enough storage space. Folks use all kinds.

Part Time Full Timers

Excel made a travel trailer for a few years, Very nice trailer.

It is true that a 5th wheel tows much better and will have better storage. Also I'm of the opinion that it's much better to purchase a high quality used rig.

This is probably just another "out" for manufacturers; gives them opportunity to deny warranty claims, if the vehicle is used contrary to their express written instructions.
