Passport Renewal
I have been full time many years now and use the Escapees South Dakota address as my legal domicile address. I have a friend who just went full time and he and his wife use a South Dakota address ( non Escapee) in Souix Falls. They are currently in Florida for the winter. The wife went to renew her Passport and was told that she had to have a physical address. A mail forwarding address, PMB, was not acceptable. The private campground they are in allowed her to use their address to get a Florida drivers liscense so she could renew her Passport. I will need to renew my Passport next year. Has anyone used an Escapees address, TX, FL or SD or any mail forwarding address for a Passport renewal?

it's even worse then that... Google "real id".
Apparently this year they began the requirement for this new form of ID. Your passport will no longer be an ultimate valid ID. You must present your new "real ID". Drivers license, nope too, passport, not valid enough. It is a very ugly mess.
I have searched on just how successful it had been so far. I know part of it is you will be sold a plane ticket but can't board if you can't produce the new national ID card.
How fun is this?

A passport is still a valid ID. Your drivers license can be your real ID if your state has complied with new federal requirements, most states have already complied. At most you will need to get a new drivers license. There is no new national ID card.

Thank you for your replies but my question is, can I renew my Passport with a mail forwarding address on my drivers liscense or do I need a physical address. I am a full timer and do not have a physical address.

Our passports had our Escapees mail forwarding address on it. They give you a street address. We had no problems traveling with it.

After reading your post in the Escapees forum (where you got the same info as you are getting here) it is apparent that your friend's wife went into a Post Office to renew - Don't Do That.
You have plenty of time, so just renew yours NOW, online, send in the application and get your new one ahead of time.
This is the info you send in with your renewal application:
Your most recent U.S. passport book and/or card;
A certified copy of your marriage certificate or court order if your name has changed;
Fees; and
A recent, color photograph.
That's it - no driver's license, etc.
This is the link to the form for you to fill out, along with the instructions.

oh geeze i forgot about the part where if your state i
DMV is Real ID compliant the DL is indeed valid. Thanks for that part. Its just a mess to deal with more red tape that seems not to offer any benefit for the individual. sigh, the price we pay for "safety" right?

Odd. I have a non-escapees address in SD. It’s a pmb address and was able to get a new passport. I think it was 3 years ago.

Yes, 3 years ago it was not a problem, but under the new laws I believe that you are required to have a physical address. Not sure. That is what I am trying to find out.

My wife renewed her passport in October of last year using our Escapees Texas address. She completed the online form and mailed her old passport in along with the form. She had no issues with renewal.

We use Dakota Post in Sioux Falls SD for our mail but for residence and voting we use the address on the receipt from the RV Park we stayed in, in Belle Fourche SD.
I would think our voting residence would be good for our passport.

Just make sure you have correct MAILING address on the form as you don’t want the park getting your passport.

I used my SD America's Mailbox without problems.
Agree with the poster that said do it yourself.
Don't ask anyone. The might tell you something you don't want to hear.
