I have a feeling that FTing is going to become even more popular as more people leave there homes and let the banks have them back...whether by choice or by circumstances/hardships. Does anyone else think FTn is the only way a whole generation will see as an option for retirement. What say ya' all?

Hi Cheryl,
Funny you should bring that up. Hubs and I were talking about that last night. So many options to consider!!
For people in the US I can see that very well, especially if one is able to purchase their RV/Trailer as their next 'home', and you have the weather for all yr living.
Since we're from Canada, and need to remain here 6 mo/yr, we have to look at other options,,,,but it still looks good for wintering in the south. If and when the time comes that travelling is not feasible, then we have to look at other options....or just parking it and living in it...With that in mind we're considering buying a small (very small) property, to either live on, or as an investment to maybe move into a trailer park later.
There are alot of options...hope to hear some more.
PP

Thinking back 20+ years ago when we had a 24' TT, I hardly ever ran into anyone that was full timing. Now it seams like every other person I talk to is a FTer. So I would agree that there is an upward trend going on.

I probably should have titled the thread late baby boomers (those in their 50's) retiring early into FT RVn...that is what I think we are going to be seeing a lot of. Leaving the rat race after 30+ years to begin a dream life.

We are hoping to start fulltiming in a couple years. We wnt be able to afford to retire, so atleast one of us well have to gain income while on the road. Our "American Dream" has changed in the last few years, so we are both looking forward to being gypsys.

if you have a coach worthy of full time i would assume your stick house would not be an asset that you would just walk away from. if your life is that upside down letting the stick go to the bank is NOT the first bad decision you have made. brianj

The first bad desicion was buying a house that floods... Not knowing that it floods, no record or disclosure that it floods. So my first ever dream home that I purchased for 72k turned into a 160k nightmare. Lol

I know you are not talking to me because I've never made ANY bad
decisions. I should have left the 'losing' house part out of my OP. Really just curious how many 50 somethings are considering or already retiring early and hitting the road FT.
How about 50 somethings GIVING their house to their kids (gonna' be theirs eventually anyways) and owning a used MH that is fully paid for? Does that meet with your approval? Most of us 50 somethings will be out there work camping or running some other business on the road so please be nice...we might be your camp host

Well, unfortunately I am not a member of the "I've got mine club".
I am a baby boomer that worked hard for 30+ years. I put 15% of my money into a 401K plan. I did what I thought was the right thing, all my family members regarded me as a good responsible man. I bought the House, new cars and toys and big screen TV's. I worked myself right into a debilitating stroke. Now I can no longer work. Having to retire early is quite sobering to say the least. Property values are in the dirt, my 401K plan lost 50% of it's value. I think if I had just been born 10-15 years sooner I would have it made.
Having said that, I could choose to live in a sticks/bricks or be a full time RVer, but not both. We chose to do the thing we love the most. Decided living the rest of our lives in one place is not the life for us.

Cherylv,
You make a very good point but I'll go you one better. The percentage of full-timers who boondock will also increase.

Agree on the increase in both RV's and boondocking!! Economy is too far stretched to keep all of us working in full time, real income producing jobs.... besides, it is still a great and beautiful country to see... especially from a RV while Fulltiming!!
