Rv tire protection

The place where we bought our RV is offering a tire treatment for puncture protection. It is expensive, over $1000. IS this a common offering for tires or oversell on their part??

Protect your tires, by staying away from places like that. Anything to make a buck.

A shop applied treatment that will make the tires more or less bullet proof? They might be implying the green stuff you can pump into a tire that is supposed to seal small punctures. Worked well on my riding lawn mower but considering the volume of a 19.5 or a 22.5 tire I'm a bit skeptical how well such a product would work for our particular application.

A tire pressure monitor would be a much better use of you RV budget and at about half the cost of the treatment.

Sounds like Tyron bands. It's a fear tactic to separate you from your money, don't fall for it.

Gee, we’ve run tires for 7 yrs before changing out and never had any thing done to them besides checking pressures, keeping them covered when sitting, and trying to avoid bad roads. Put that money towards covers for them.

I think the Tyron Bands are for keeping the tire on the rim in a massive lost of air. Keeps it from rolling toward the center of the rim.

I completely disagree about Slime. I sold it for quite a while and found it very useful. About the only thing it did was make it easy to find the leak.

How does this tire treatment protect the tire from being punctured?

Slime or anything like it only works after the tire has been punctured.

You cannot prevent a tire from being damaged, you can only make it financially less painful to replace it. This is why I buy tires from Discount Tire and purchase their replacement certificates too. I haven't had to buy new tires for the trailer yet, but if I can get the replacement certificates for them I will (mentions that RV are ineligible, but you never know what you might be able to negotiate).

Sure is hard to clean off rims with tubeless tires. Also corrodes steel wheels big time. Trashed my garden tractor steel rims. I would only use it only on the side of road in an emergency.

You might check out Coach Net RV Tire and Wheel Protection.

Can't protect against road-hazard tire damage. Maybe mitigate the results.
