My plates are due end of Sept, anyone know how far ahead SD sends out the renewal notices. Mine are due end of Sept. We are with Americas Mail Box.

Did you get your plates through Americas Mailbox originally? If so they will send you a reminder email, and will process the renewal for you for a $25 fee. Best bargain in town in my opinion.

They send out the renewal notices about six weeks before the expiration date.

Yes about 6 weeks for me too.

I dont understand why people pay someone to register or renew their SD registrations. I get the renewal notice and pay the County treasurer. Not hard at all.

To each his own.

You used to be able to renew online. We are now FL residents so I don't remember what the website was, but the ability to renew showed up online long before the notice went out. I think there was a $2 extra fee to use a credit card, which was well worth it for the convenience.

I renewed my plates last January online and was mailed my tags. I also have americas mail box and they did the initial registration as I was in southern Nevada at the time. No problem.

The old "sdcars. gov" has been replaced, but I think going there will redirect you. You will need all your info to set up a new account. There is a small fee and they will mail tags to your SD address.

Works very well. SD is a leader in using today's tech.

My registrations all come due in August and it happens that this year I will be in Sturgis next week. I'll stop by Rapid City (Pennington County) to renew and add a new one.

I was there 4 years ago when I first changed over to SD. It was an easy walk up to the counter and I got things done easily. I've been using SDcars to renew since then.

Of course I know we all are not normally in the area to do this.

This is the second year in a row I didn't get a renewal notice I'm in Sturgis this time of year and went to the Bute County courthouse to renew told the lady about it and her reply was she hasn't received a notice in five years and nothing can be done about it. Government at its finest

Interesting the replies of not receiving notice of renewal.

Have you set up an account with MySDCars?

My experience has been great once it was set up. Three vehicles, same month expire. Gets done online in less than ten minutes.

Is it possible that the renewal notices are sent as '3rd class mail' and being removed by mail services if you have them forward only 1st class?

I called SD DMV and arranged an e-mail notification direct to me. Then do everything by phone.

I tried to go on line but can't access it. Guess I'll just wait for Americas Mail Box.

MySdcars.sd.gov only works with Microsoft Windows operating systems, no Apple, no tablets, no Android!
