Happy Holidays to all from COLD Chicago--was minus 6 deg this morning when the Hooligans ventured out!

1. In preperation for leaving the stix & brix next year for FT life I want to be ready to snatch up a bunch of plastic storage containers at the after Christmas sales: Rubbermaid/Sterilite/etc to organize the basement. Are the heights pretty much the same in different units? We're most likely going to be in a 30 ft 5er. The storage boxes have been mentioned in the books I've read, but it's hard to picture how they stack when looking at an empty basement on a lot. Although it looks pretty good sized, I fear that all too soon it will feel the size of a matchbox.

2. We're toying with the idea of putting a futon in the unit instead of getting the standard couch/bed. Has anyone used futons successfully?

3. We're looking at 30 ft 5ers & our short list was doen to Excel, New Horizons & HitchHiker. Well as we know-it got shorter. Are there any other makes out there anyone knows of suitable for FT living in this size that we may have missed? I know we are cutting out a LOT of manufacturers by going shorter, but most of our time will be in state/national parks & boondocking & we really feel this will fit for us.

Thanks & have a great holiday.....no matter where you may be spending it. (We've got the freeze your butt off temps covered for all of you)

Well, obviously, I think the Excel is an excellent choice!

Our first fulltiming RV was a New Horizons and the HitchHiker was on our short list before we bought our Excel. Any of the 3 should fit the bill for you.

As far as getting storage boxes, I'd wait until you either get the unit, or know exactly which one you're going to get and can get some measurements. The size of basement storage areas is NOT the same from brand to brand or even from model to model.

Thanks Linda

Last I heard HitchHiker was ceasing production-haven't seen anything to change that. We are planning to go to KC the end of Feb for my daughters wedding & hope to tour the the factories in KS while out there.

I am (always have been!) such a pack rat that it's a challenge to start to get thru all the accumulated stuff. Although it is a high in its' own way as my Goodwill pile incrases. Can't tell you how many times "what the heck was I thinking?" has played thru my mind as I find something stashed away.

Linda

From what I know, I think HitchHiker has only ceased production until sometime early next year. I don't believe they're actually out of business. Maybe someone here has more, current, information.

Or, you could go to the Nu Wa Owner's Forum and find out: http://www.nuwaowners.org/forum/
