The AMA and other groups have warned the DEA about the potential unintended consequences of reclassifying hydrocodone combination products since the agency made the proposal early last year. Eliminating phoned-in prescriptions and refills could make it difficult for some patients to get the pain relief they need, especially patients in nursing homes and those with persistent pain and disabilities.

AND DO THEY CARE?........................ Without pain management more may choose to end it sooner. Older people are expensive for the government, so what do you suppose their agenda is? YES there are death panels, covert or otherwise they do exist.

Try living in WV. It's not impossible, close though, to even find a Doctor to prescribe pain meds. I moved here from MD several years ago. Took 2 months and a trip to pain clinic ( $400 bill for doctor to tell me they don't prescribe pain meds ). I even had to go back to my previous Doc. to get another prescription. He did it but said he won't do it again because a nearby Doc got busted for it. Had been going to him for 8 years.

I have had a Doc write several prescriptions with a do not fill before date. The Doc office requires you to designate a pharmacy where you will fill them. If you designate a national chain it makes it easy to fill out of state. Just call the pharmacy before you need it filled to insure they have it or will fill it.

The abusers are making it harder for the people who need it. Just look what they've done with oxycontin. Raised the price so high a lot of insurance companies won't even cover it. It was the best pain med on the market. I wonder what's next
