As mentioned several time it is a personal decision so I can only explain our reasoning. We didn't want to be landlords and have to worry about tax issues, keeping detailed track of expenses, worrying about how well the house and gardens are being cared for, and getting calls about this or that not working. The house was paid for and so we sold it and put proceeds into short term investments. The worst case scenario for us is that if we get tired of full timing we'll just buy another house.
Our plan is to full time for about five years so we did not put any furniture into storage. Sold every stick of furniture, dish, silverware, towels, everything except some oil paintings we really liked and some tools. We figure for the cost of a large climate controlled storage unit for five years we could simply buy new furniture. Remember that your current furniture may not fit the new house you might buy.
I'm retired and I want to stay that way. My only worry is the motor coach and where were going next.
