Too late in the year to travel to Alaska?
Does anyone know when would be the latest I could take my family and Motorhome up to Alaska without risking parks closing and getting snowed in? Thanks for any advice... know we are getting a late start and looking to head up there in late September or Early October

Unless you have a snow plow on the front you have missed the boat. Start planning for June of next year.....

When You fly North, you'll see a white line somewhere North of Watson Lake around the second of September... Looks great from the plane, but NOT from the left seat of a Motorhome ??

Aw come on BobGed, it's bad enough we start winterizing & getting ready to hibernate the MH near the end of October, so it's not quite a couple of weeks yet!! We have two more trips planned before we do all that!!
Unfortunately it will all be here before we know it & definitely before we want to see it.

You are a little too late for this year. In 2009 we left Texas on August 17th and returned home around October 1st. We made it to Edmonton on August 23rd, to Tok, Alaska on August 29th, and then on to Fairbanks on August 30th. By September 16th we were in Vancouver and out of the north area. Most parks in Alaska close around the 15th-20th of September.
If you would like to see our time line you can see it and photos at:
ronniesphotos' Photos : RV Vacations : Alaska - 2009 | SmugMug
This was a FAST trip of about 45 days. You really should shoot for at least 60-90 days to really spend quality time in different areas. Our plans are to head back on the same basic route either 2012 or 2013 and we will leave around the first of July. We felt our trip from August to mid September in Canada and Alaska was just about the perfect time as we had no problems with weather, no problems with finding an RV Park, in fact we made no reservations but would call ahead the day before arriving at a park to make sure they had a spot. We had several parks that would only have 2 or 3 RVs in there Park.

Jey there G Davis. I live on the Alaska highway at mile 45. The latest that I can suggest is start of September. Not only do you have the start of hunting season up here and all it's traffic, but lately the snow has been arriving sooner the closer you get to Alaska. Parks here start to close at the middle to end of September. Hope this helps. You will not regret the trip. It is absolutely beautiful.

When I was in Alaska two years ago my last stop was in Valdez. I got to talking with the campground host who hosts at the park regularly. He told me he tries to get out of town by mid September. When he has left later he usually runs into snow.

This was really a joke, correct?
Early October there is snow in the Rockies, Yellowstone has snow, Glacier National Park will have closed the "Going to the Sun" Road, snow in the Cascades, etc. Your window is June-August. Have fun next year.
