Update: UPS Mail Forwarding

OK, now I have the scoop from both my local UPS store and my local PO.

Local postmaster gave me the 'Mover's Packet' and told me to fill out the form. He said to check the 'Temporary Move' box. They will begin forwarding my mail to the address I indicate on the date I enter. He said that I should just stop by the post office when we get back and let them know to resume mail delivery to my home.

Now, the USPS does offer a Premium Mail Forwarding service but they charge $17.50 for every week mail is shipped to you (depending on actual weight, volume and location). He told me this was obviously not a solution for us since our actual locations will be changing as we travel.

At the UPS Store I paid $45 for three months access to a mail box. They will hold all mail forwarded to them until we either call them or email them to send mail. They will only send what we want and will hold the rest at their location until we return. Obviously, our shipping costs will vary with the volume and weight of mail we want shipped to us.

Unless I have missed something, this appears to be a reasonable and affordable solution for intermittent travel.

If we fine we are traveling more than we are at home, we will probably just made the UPS Store address our permanent mailing address.

It sounds like that's a good plan and it should work well for your situation.

We used the PO temporary forwarding service to our PMB in SD last winter and the winter before. It expired about the time we got back and the PO resumed delivery to our local PO box. Since we are no longer full timing or snow birding we are now in the process of notifying everyone that our new address is our house here in CO. After we are sure all needed notifications have been made we will cancel our SD mail forwarding service. The reason you can't file a change of address when you are using a mail forwarding service is that all mail for all customers is delivered to the service and they sort it into the PMB boxes. A change of address would send the mail for all of their customers to your new address.
