What torture.
I just discovered full-time RVing online last week and have been reading everything I can get my hands on. I thought my wife would think I had lost it when I suggested selling the house and hitting the road in an RV... instead, she said "LET'S ROLL."
Our second daughter is heading to college in 6 months and then we will be empty nesters in Texas. Our first daughter is in Florida working at Disney World.
I know - you're saying... what's holding you back?
I work at a University as a programmer. I have 11 years here. After 10 more years I'm eligible to retire and get teacher's retirement which should be about $2,500 a month. In addition to that I will start getting my Air Force Reserve retirement check at about the same time (I'm 49 now and don't get military retirement till I hit 60 because I finished my time as a reservist). Military retirement pay for me will be about $1,500.
So, if I just finish off my 10 years here I can retire with $4,000 a month.
Plus, I own a web design / database business on the side that I can do from anywhere.
So, here is my checklist for now
- pay off all debt
- rent an RV Oct 2014 for a long trip out to Florida and back with 10+ days there so we can spend 10-14 days in an RV and make sure I'm not crazy
- start saving as much money as possible so we can maybe hit the road with a paid off MH and toad in 2024.
- start scanning papers and getting rid of all the stuff we have accumulated
Just curious how many others out there are WAITING?
How long did you have to wait before you could gain your freedom?
Others have asked me if I can do my current job from the road... not really, lots of hand on training and classes... but, who knows 5 years from now could be a whole different picture.
