Hi we are new and Ron and Kathy from Phoenix Arizona. We have decided to make a plan even thou it is approx 1 year out. We are only 50 simple minded couple married 20 years. We have a small budget but have looked at all options and know that buying a nice used class C in the 29-31 ft will work fine for us pulling our PT Cruiser on a tow dolly. We have no family either of us so we want to enjoy the country together a dream for years. I know we dont need much to be happy together but each other and our budget some will frown at only a used class C but we know we can make it work. We want to work since we are way to young to retire. We want to see this beautifull country and work here and there and move on to see more. What do you all think of our plans being new to this and overwhelmingly excited.
thanks
Ron and Kathy

Hi Ron and Kathy. Welcome to the irv2 Forums.
One year out is definitely not too soon to begin to plan. We planned for over 4 years. There is a lot to think about and a lot to be done. Read, talk, learn all you can. There are many good books on the subject of fulltiming. There also are a number of organizations that provide seminars and publications for fulltimers and wannabees.
It sounds like your plan is beginning to take shape. There are many opportunities to work while on the road. Take your time and investigate. Research your RV. There are a number of irv2 Forums on specific types and even specific brands of RVs. The only caution I have about a Class C for fulltiming (or any RV for that matter) is to make sure you get enough carrying capacity and towing capacity. Do your homework ahead of time and you should be fine.

Hi Kathy & Ron
There is nothing like a dream to create the future.
Victor Hugo
Good for you! I agree that with the dream comes careful planning. You have a good start here. Lots of great information.
Also you may want to consider a subscription to TRailerLife or MotorHome magazine.
I would efintely advise you to attend a Life on Wheels Conference LOW AND a RV Rally
With both of these you get the "real life skinny" from RVers, themselves
Learn how to choose and buy an RV BEFORE you buy
to afford a costly error
So much to learn but so much fun learning it!
Happy Trails!

Don't think most will frown at using a clas c to full time. A lot of fulltimers are using them. Not all fulltimers are rich.
If you have a dream it takes work for it to become real. Without plans and work it remains a dream. Good luck with your plans.
Joe

We full-time in a 22ft Class C (with a dog & cat, it's tight). When buying any used RV, watch out for old leaks in the roof and around the water heater area. Many RVs we looked at had the roofs completely rotted away but the interior still looked "like new". Of course these were the ones that also have "like new" prices too! Things to go "bigger" on: closet space (inside of our single closet is 17", that is too small for 2 persons), holding tanks and kitchen cabinets. We replaced the old 4CF RV fridge with an electric 3CF fridge stacked over an electric 4CF freezer. One of those AC/DC thermoelectric Igloo coolers will fill in as extra fride space in a pinch (usually for just a couple of days til we eat the frige stuff down a bit). Biggest thing you will see here about full-timing is the be free of any loan payments. Makes life alot easier.

That $1300 month include bills? Such as MH payment, credit card payment, etc.

We've had thoughts about the same thing, but more than 1 year out. I would suggest you look at the Escapees organization. They offer a great deal of information and services for fulltime RVers. Their web site is www.escapees.com. They have a big "Escapade" event in Indiana in September, with a wide array of seminars, classes, and all kinds of information. We're thinking of going to that.
Another resource is Workamper news at www.workamper.com They have loads of information about jobs you can work at while fulltiming.
I've seen quite a few messages expressing how people like fulltiming so much they wish they had done it much sooner.
Good luck,

Hi Ron & Kathy,
All these posts are really good things for you to consider. I have one more item for you to think about. From the time you take delivery of your coach, leave at least 6 months for short shake down trips. Once the first cycle is complete and you are full timing, 30 days should be enough time for shake down trips. My maintenance plan is all maintenance, tinkering, upgrades, etc. are completed 3 months before the big trip season starts (June through November). This gives me time to have a few short trips under my belt to ensure anything that has been touched, for any reason, is working as advertised.

We bought our MH in 2003, intending to eventually use it full time. We have spent the past 3 summers in it, and off and on during the winter months. Now that we are ready to live in our MH full time, we are already very comfortable in it, and accustomed to the limitations.. (which I feel are far less than the advantages and convenience! )
Since we live in Snowbird land (and our family is here), we will still be spending our winters here in Sunny AZ... so we have taken an annual space at a senior citizen rv resort. Then in the Spring, we will hit the road until Fall.
When we tire of the RV lifestyle, we will probably put a Park Model on our space and replace our 39' MH with a smaller one for summer travels. We think it is the best of both worlds..
