We went inside, after being searched, and sat down. 4 border agents searched my MH for over 30 minutes. They even took a dog inside. Needless to say, thy didn't find anything and let us enter. I thought it was interesting that before allowing us to go, they mentioned that I was a retired federal law enforcement officer. So much for professional courtesy.
Just because you once had a gun on board?! Donít think I need the hassle and spend my $ in the USA.

Some of these stories make me wonder why we werenít searched and subjected to a body cavity search last summer when we crossed at Sweetgrass. We were asking the usual questions about liquor, tobacco, cash and duration. It raised an eyebrow when I said a week to 10 days. Explained we wanted to see Banff and Jasper. Okay, no problem.

When asked if we had any firearms, I said no. When asked if I had a CCW, I said I did. I was asked when I carried, where I carried. Right hip. I was asked what I carried and I told the agent. He said he preferred the Glock 17. He handed our paperwork back to us, welcomed us to Canada and said have a nice trip.

Maybe we were just lucky, who knows. We were towing a 35í fiver.

We attempted to cross into Canada few years ago from Glacier NP. I wasn’t even thinking about having my gun on board. When asked if I had any alcohol- no sir; any firewood? - yes sir. It has to go in the yellow dumpster over there! But it is store-bought. Is it dimensional lumber? - no sir. It has to go in the yellow dumpster. Any guns on-board?- yes sir. Long rifle, handgun, what? A .45 cal pistol. It has to go in the yellow dumpster over there! What a sense of humor! I turned around and headed back down to U.S. Customs where he already knew my story. He told me the same thing happened the week before and the fellow ran up into the woods and buried his gun rather than running all the way back into town to rent a locker. I told him I didn’t think I wanted to do that!

Lot of good reading on shipping hand guns to Alaska but laws should be the same shipping to any FFL.

Get a safety deposit box at a bank or a storage facility.

Nothing I can think of, I do it whenever I go there. In Illinois it is legal unless the bank posts a "no guns sign." Some banks and credit unions in my area do post but most do not. Jim.

Have You Asked The Police?

Many police agencies will accept firearms for safekeeping. They will store the firearms in their evidence rooms. Call your local PD, Sheriff, or State Police and ask if they can accept safekeeping weapons while you travel out of the country.

not one thing.

here in texas its legal. unless bank is posted iaw law.
but you can carry a firearm in any bag or satchel or briefcase to your safety deposit box..they cant ask whats in the bag

but i would go to the airport and lock them in a locker.

until your return.

or ship them to a friend to hold until you come back home

ups and fedex both will ship firearms. we do it all the time

If you have a homebase where you normally stay, you could rent a locker there. Im sure you can survive for six weeks without a gun. We have travelled all over North America for ten years without the need for one. I know some will say, "When seconds count, the police are only minutes away". Canada is a pretty safe place, with the exception of maybe downtown in the major cities at night.

"Unfortunately, TSA no longer allows lockers at airports in the United States, so you won't find self-service luggage storage at any area airport such as DCA, Dulles, or BWI. You can always call your airline and see how early you can check a bag, as some will allow you to check luggage hours before your flight."
Many train and bus stations are now doing away with lockers because of the fear of mass casualties if someone leaves a bomb in a locker. Lot of pawn shops out there though.
