We will be hitting the road soon. (5/1) Our intension is to travel to most of the US and Canada. We want to stay in a place a few weeks to a month. (We are hoping this will help keep the costs down.)

How do you decide where to stay?

We have pulled into parks that we would not stay even over night and other parks we could stay forever. I want to plan ahead before we move to a new area. Any ideas on this would be a big help.....

I have TL directory and several other resources but they don't always tell the whole tail.....

I check the websites of the town or city that I'll be going through. Look at the accommodations if they have campgrounds it is usually in that section.

We have been full time for almost a year now and have been off setting the cost of parks by trying to boondock some. We found that the rv parks on the west coast have gone up about 15% from the same time last year. One thing we did was bought the passport membership which gives you a 50% discount at some parks. However, we have found the parks to be just ok at best. Good sam is another membership available which gives a 10% discount. Utilize weekly and monthly rates and that will also help. We have a 40ft coach so that limits the state parks available to us, and we also found the state parks to be way to noisey for us. I purchase a resale thousand trails membership, and have found it to be ok for the money too. I guess it is all dependant on the type of parks you are looking for. This forum and the rv.net forum are probably your best bet for recommendations for parks

Talk, Ask, Talk, Ask...

The first year you will have some mistakes in your choices. Each time you are somewhere talk to others and you will soon have a list of great places recommended by people like yourself.

Enjoy the trip.

Thanks for the comments. We to are driving a big rig (40') We are not big on boon docking but we don't need all the extras either. We just want clean/friendly spots. We are looking at all the resouces but asking seems to be the best.

Again thanks....
