I'm sure there is a section tucked away that my eyes aren't seeing that I should be posting this in, but because I didn't, I figured this would probably be the best one.

When we take delivery of our new (to us) motorhome, we have to replace the carpet by the looks of it. As we will be wintering in it, from your experience, does it make a big difference between carpet and laminate flooring? Would the carpet and padding help with insulation? Would we have to deal with cold floors with laminate?

It would be nice to have the floor partially laminated by the door, but as we would probably walk through that area a lot while settled, and not going in and out, we'd rather not have to deal with cold floors if we don't have to! I really don't want to destroy the carpet with snow being tracked in.

What has worked for you, and what hasn't?

-Sky

If it were me, I would replace with laminate. It's a little more expensive, but it can be swept and washed. If your feet get cold, you can also put some throw rugs down.

Also consider vinyl plank (like Allure or Allure Ultra from Home Depot and I think Lowe's may have a similar product). You can always put cotton rugs down on it.

We don't stay anywhere it's cold but we do travel with three dogs so....

We replaced our carpet with Allure and have been really happy with it. We added a 5x8 area rug (which needs to be rolled up for travel) and several smaller matching rugs. We also used matching area rugs to replace the carpet which is located on the slides themselves. We cut it to size and hold it down with staples and double backed carpet tape.

Best of luck.

BTW, IMHO a laminate floor will be considerable colder than carpet.

Yeah, I figure it will be colder, but...doesn't hurt to ask, right? I'm trying to figure out a balance of insulation from the cold and managing the floor with tracked in snow.

If you've ever looked at the back of carpet that's been removed, or the padding, you'll not ever want to set foot on carpet again. Laminate or vinyl may be colder, but you can keep it reasonably clean fairly easily. Not so with carpet. Use rugs, wear wool sock .

The worst part is..I HATE socks lol. My wife loves socks though. Guess I'd just have to go with slippers.
