We depart on our fulltiming adventure in October, headed for the mid-south. I've found information about winterizing for storage, but haven't had much luck in finding information about protecting the RV's workings from freezes whilst living in it. We'll be between Nashville and Dallas for much of the winter, and those areas are capable of hard freezes on and off. Can anyone direct me toward a resource with tips on living in the MH when the temps drop into the 30s and 40s?

My wife and I lived in our Class A for 19 months, in Southern Oregon (Gold Hill). During that time we had rain, ice, and snow. We found that as long as you keep your water lines protected/insulated so they don't freeze, keep the inside of the coach at a reasonable temperature, you'll be fine. Our only problem was having our windows inside watering up. We cut up sponges and put them in the window rails and it sopped up any water traces. A lot of people in our park installed some kind border around their rigs, to help keep the cold air from circulating underneath. Don't know if that helped or not. Oy yeah...don't leave your awning out when the snow comes. Getting 5 inches of the white stuff off before the awning collapses can be an interesting chore

I wouldn't be at all concerned about temps in the 30's while living in the rig. If freezing temps are forecast I would have the water hose outside only when filling the fresh water tank. Unless you have water lines totally exposed under your rig, there should be no problems down into the 20's. A year ago while in Ft Worth, it got down into the teens one weekend!

Knowing the fine details about your rig might help put your mind at ease. Many port heat to the basement area from the LP furnace(s). Mine does, and we have been in temps below zero for up to a week with no problems while running the LP furnaces. Obviously, running only an electric heater in the living area to avoid using LP would not do much for heating those basement areas that depend on heat from the LP furnace.

Something else that could help would be to get a wireless thermometer with remote sending units so you can monitor the temp in sensitive areas. We have one with three remotes. We use one in the refrigerator, one in the basement water service bay, and one in the basement compartment where the water pump is. If one of the compartments fell below freezing, I would put an automotive trouble light or spot light in the compartment. The heat from the bulb in the small compartment would make a huge difference. If you do this, make sure the bulb cannot come in contact with any wood or other flamable surface.

That eases some of my concerns, thanks! Sometimes reading iRV2 can get intimidating, as our rig is older and less well-equipped than many--we've been worried that we're under-prepared. Thanks again!
