I'm thinking of getting a Metal Detector and maybe also get into Gold Prospecting.
Do they have any clubs or open claims to camp on. I'm going to install solar panels and extra batteries in the near future. I would like to hear from anybody that has tried this are still involved in it. Thanks for any input.

Check into Kelko for dectectors on the web they have some good prices, you will need to figure what type of dectecting you want to do gold, coin & relics? they have dual purpose detectors with different coils for what you want to do I have mine lab there high dollor machines are the way to go to punch deep IMO. However, I am looking at a gold bug 2 to replace my mid level minelab. This is a more specific machine,( gold ) there is much to learn to have good results. There are some areas you can buy into cliams like at rich mtn Arizona you will just to do some research. Best of luck, gold is where you find it..

What brand and Type of metal detector would you recommend to a newbee. Just thinking of trying local till I get use to it and then if I like it, then invest in a good unit. Thinking of starting out coin and relics hunting.

My son got me a mid price one that I use on the beach or camp sites. Found a few things rings, coins, etc. but mostly bottle caps.

DetectionNet - A&S Company Metal detectors I have found this place to have the best prices for metal detectors. and the extras are negotiable also. I think they are better than Kelley detectors. these guys are very helpful and friendly. I have bought four detectors from them so far. the last one or I should say two, were the Ace 250 by Garrett. very good detectors. they now make a ace 350

Thanks for the site info. You are right that their prices are very good. I like the extra gifts with the purchase. I will read up on all the different metal detector out there and start my venture. Thanks to every body for your info.

All I can say is this: Had 2 different guys(out of 3 total) look at my TT (Travel Trailer/toy hauler style) who wanted to buy it & go out west to Gold prospect...I live in NJ. Just thought this odd. I dunno, maybe it's me? Should have bought Google stock too, I guess!

Check out GPAA (Gold Prospectors Association of America) for claims. You must be a member to prospect those claims. Also, here out west, many prospectors are armed (open carry allowed in NV and AZ). You do not want to trespass on someone's claim.

We don't prospect but I have friends that go to Oregon every year for the summer months and do it. Last summer they did pretty well, 11 ounces of gold in 3 months. They are a man wife team. He does the diving and she operates the small barge that has the pump for air and the vacuum that brings the stuff to the surface. She seperates the content and keeps in communication with him while he's underwater.
He does quite a bit of jewelry exploring with his metal detector as well. I've seen a couple of the cases he has filled with various rings, metals and coins as well. Forgot what he said it was all worth but it was a bit of cash.

I joined the prospector club of America. and they have a lot of claims in the USA. remember this one thing. it has been said that all the gold found and hoarded in the world today is only about 5% of what this planet has hidden in it's top accessible surface.

Howdy!

A very good forum to look at that may help you is TreasureNet.com. I used this forum when I did research as to what metal detector I wanted to purchase a few years ago when I retired. I purchased a Tesoro Lobo SuperTRAQ which at that time was one of the best gold detectors. The only thing I've ever found with it to date is screws, wire, bullets etc... Its a great detector I just haven't found any gold.
