Any West Virginia boondockers?

Hi all, new member here in northern WV. Wanting to get a Class C soon, but still camping in my truck w/cap & air mattress for now. Anyone know of any good out of the way places in West Virginia? I’ve been to many, and planning on going down toward Spruce Knob area next week. May head over to Davis / Blackwater. The weather is “supposed” to be pretty nice mid week. Cooler & dry.

We like the Tea Creek area. Very pretty in the fall.

Monongahela National Forest - Tea Creek Campground

We actually do more boondocking in Ohio. AEP lands off of I77

Hey, thanks very much Laura. Those both look very interesting.

How are the AEP lands? I actually worked for one of the WV mines that AEP owned, back in the 80s and 90s. Sometimes our mines would loan parts to each other in an emergency breakdown situation, and I drove the flatbed truck over there to Southern Ohio Coal Co. several times to pick up parts. There's some beautiful open territory out there. That is back when Big Muskie was in operation. I'll definitely look into the camping possibilities. Thx again for the links.

Then you know the area. There is a Big Muskie display. One of the pics at the display is of the local high school band inside of the bucket.

There are good fishing holes and interesting local history - part of the Underground Railroad was in these counties. The Wilds is nearby and some good bluegrass venues are in the area.

We were in the Davis, Blackwater Falls and Canaan Valley area last year. Loved loved it...especially the Dolly Sods Natural area. There is a small dry campground (Red Creek Campground) on top of the Sods (4000'). The road to get there (about 25 miles) is not very RV friendly, but there were a few smaller RV's in the campground.

Dolly Sods is a very special place. It is basically a high plateau between 3800' and 4000'. It's about 5 miles wide by about 20 miles long.

Thanks for the pics of Blackwater Falls and Dolly Sods. We've lived in Oregon since '73, but back in the late '50s and until we moved out here that area was my favorite playground. It is still as beautiful as it was then, but much more restricted.

Another place is the campground at summit lake just east of richwood. if you fish in the lake make sure you have a trout stamp. there is also the cranberry river. place to dry camp fee is $10 bucks at both places
