Read the comments! Talk about jumping to conclusions. I'm an avid off roader and am not particularly happy with how I am treated in my hobby by the federal government. That being said, can we get just a few facts before we convict a LEO on the internet?

There is always at least three versions of what happened:
-The officer
-The people that saw it happen or were shot at
-The whole truth without any missing information (the hardest to find)

And they often don't all match up somehow. Ain't that odd? Let's at least wait for more information before we get some rope for anybody's neck.

Are there areas set up for off roading on BLM land? I live in the east where most land is privately owned. And state game lands do not allow motorized vehicles.

Out west I understand is a lot different. Are there any rules for BLM land? I imagine you can not dump nuclear waste but are the any other rules? Can you hunt? Can you carry an open or concealed gun? Can you camp anywhere? Can you fish? Can you run naked? Can I drive a bulldozer on BLM land? Can I graze sheep?

I will Google BLM land since I know very little about it.

That title is similar to what my local socialist leaning news paper would print, and then buried at the end of the story are some of the facts. Usually a few days later comes what really happened, sort of.

It would be interesting to have ALL the facts. My wife and I watch a lot of law-enforcement type shows and when officers draw weapons in a situation such as this, it's usually because a driver is threatening to run them down.

BLM lands are vast and diverse. There are different rules for different areas. I suspect this happened on land set aside for restoration. ATVs can really destroy sensitive habitat. I'm not saying that's a reason to shoot someone, but the officer could have been firing a warning shot that bounced off a rock and hit the woman.

I did Google 'Rules on BLM Land'. I was surprised, it seems there are a lot of rules. They talk about "leave no trace' yet I see on YouTube a ton of black tire marks on what was once pretty red rock.

Bottom line, it said to check at the nearest BLM Land office to get the latest set of rules. I am pretty sure I have seen target shooting on BLM Land. That does not mix well with a random hiker.

Is BLM land marked well where it touches private land?.

Was the TV show Breaking Bad filmed on BLM land?

LE do not shoot warning shots, barring all the hypotheticals,
This couple were out off roading and if they did break a rule, it should not cost them their life,

Wild wild west.

Do people drink alcohol when off roading. I know in the east off roading often includes alcohol.

Also here in the east everyone has their land posted "No Trespassing" because most land is private land. You have to post it to keep vehicles off the land.
