Boondock in proximity of Yellowstone and Rushmore?

hello, dw and i will be going yellowstone and rushmore in next few days. we plan to stay in yellowstone for 4 days and in rushmore for 2 days. then heading to sioux falls then to winnipeg. do you have recommendations for boondocking (or low cost camping sites accommodating 40 feeters; no hook-ups required) in yellowstone and rushmore? thanks in advance.

Cannot say about Yellowstone, but there is disbursed camping in the Black Hills - but none that I know of near Rushmore. Several national forest campgrounds in that area.

We stayed at Custer State Park near Rushmore at the Game Lodge Campground. I think we paid around $20/night for 50 amp. Plenty of 40' sites in the campground, free hot showers, dump station, fresh water fill, nightly Ranger programs, and easy access to the park/Rushmore/Crazy Horse.

I highly recommend the campground if you're willing to pay a nominal fee for camping. Sorry I can't help with boondocking spots though.

Thanks OnDaRox. I didn't check back in couple weeks sorry for replying late...
I have gone through those places, stayed near Island Park and Wasta while roaming Yellowstone and Devil's Tower/Rushmore areas, all were wonderful. I am inside Canada now and continuing our trip :-)
Happy RVing!!

There are loads of N.F. campgrounds just outside the west gate and just beyond the north east gate. Those outside the east gate aer a much longer drive.

I usually come in from Cooke city, so I know those best. About 13 miles to from the park entrance, Fox Creek has electricity. The three closer to the park do not. do not
