Last time I stayed at a WalMart, I went inside and bought some DEF, too. The manager went into the order pick-up area and got it for me. I told him that I was grateful that RVs were allowed to stay the night in the parking lot and how much easier it makes my travels into areas I don't know. He smiled and said I was the first person that ever told him anything like that.
I made sure that he knew that for many folks, Wallydocking was part of our trip planning, and that Wallydockers are encouraged to buy anything they might need in the store. He seemed surprised that there was a place like IRV2 where these things are discussed.
If any of you get the chance, tell them how you really appreciate the free overnight parking. They might not have ever been told how helpful it is.

Nothing Personal,
But Camp Wally is NOT boondocking....
Boondocking is when you shut down and the only noise is wind (or may wild animals) and the only light is from above - Way Above. The only service available in walking distance is fresh air.
Other varieties are Flatspoting, Sandtopping and Beachcamping, may be close, but do not qualify because there are probably others in view.
It otherwise only qualifies as Dry Camping. That is not that different than Blacktopping as it is paved. It is the same as Stealth Camping (done a lot of places) where you are actually Blacktopping but trying to make it look like you are just there for the short stop. (No stuff outside and no slides extended.)

Yeah buddy, we don't like no pretenders 'round these parts
*newbie is making notes to expand his lexicon of "RV Speak"
Not only is the whole concept of hauling around a house behind you filled with a wide range of required knowledge, the vocabulary is staggering in it's extensiveness! I do hope someone is doing a proper study of this sub-culture, it's truly amazing!

Boondocking is staying anyplace where there is no charge. Last I looked there aren't any in Wal*Mart's that charge to stay there.

I knew this wally docking slash boon docking conversation would include some sort of definition correction

Boondocking at Walmart
"The Boondocks is an American expression which comes from the Filipino word bundok. It originally referred to a remote rural area, but now is often applied to an out of the way city or town that is considered backwards and unsophisticated."
So it depends on where the Walmart is! Per the above, boondocking. Otherwise, blacktopping.

Out of respect for the purest of RV'ers (Boondocker's). I always call it Drycamping
It truly is an experience and you learn to love it.

I guess some people dwell on semantics.

IMHO Wal-docking can be called anything but camping. It's camping when you have FHU and the slides out and rope lights strung out and a campfire and s'mores and maybe some beer.

So what do you call being in a campground with FHU, and the slides out, but no campfire but maybe an adult beverage?
