I am looking for good recommendations of spots in Idaho that are a bit off the beaten path. I have a 5th wheel that is 30' long, I am not to afraid of narrow, windy, or bumpy roads and have done a few in the past. I seek solitude and amazing views so If you know of any spots that are near rivers or lakes please feel free to share!

I will be going in July and August if that helps.

The best resource is the local Forest Service and BLM offices in the area. They have maps of approved areas, and the local knowledge of roads that is very helpful. Another resource is the phone app called "AllStays Camp and RV". They have some BLM dispersed campgrounds in the most recent update. Well worth the $10 or so the app costs.

Thank you for that info. I will be purchasing some maps this weekend. I will probably also use some of the detailed hunting maps I have of that area, which I didn't think of for some reason initially!

Check the Motor Vehicle Use Maps for the National Forest of interest. They will show dispersed camping areas along Forest Service roads and how far off the road camping is allowed.

BLM district offices are the best resource for boondocking on BLM lands.

Know some great spots north of Ketchum (Sun Valley). Let me know if you're planning to be in that area and I can shoot you some ideas. Also lots of spots closer to Redfish Lake/Stanley..

I was planning on going around Redfish Lake in May and July. Any info would be appreciated. I am leery of staying too near the lakes as I hear they get seriously busy. I am fine taking a drive down to them but don't think I want to be right on them!

From I-90 turn north at Kingston and follow the river about 30 miles. Turn toward Murray, an old mining town. That road will take you over Thompson Pass to Thompson Falls Montana. Several very nice spots to park just past Murray. The road is all paved and in pretty good shape. The scenery is great. Both N Idaho and Montana have lots of public land and you can park just about anywhere for a few nights. PM me if you need more suggestions or have questions.
