It's OK, no harm done. I just thought there was something cool I needed to look at.

Haven't seen this question before, but how do you know where to park and set up camp on blm land? Do you just pull over, how far off the road, are there spots already there? Have never been out west yet but plan on going in a few years to do the snow birding thing.

Honestly, I don't know the exact answer to your question, but there are a few regulations to look out for. For example, in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest near where I live right now, there are regulations for "dispersed camping", such as you have to be a certain distance from a road, stream, etc., unless you are at the dead end of a road and that end is not a trail head, and similar regulations.

The best action to take since regulations could change from one area to another or from time to time is to talk to the office that administers the area you wish to camp in. BLM and USFS and the various states have regional offices that can hopefully help you, or you can look up the name of the area on the internet and see if the regulations are easy enough to find.

National Forest unimproved, NF improved campsites close by. Great spot by the lake, back in a ways or back out, no turn around at the end.

Sand Creek
State fishing access campground, toilets, nothing else, free. 3 different camping areas in the vicinity. Gravel road to it, 2.4 miles, walk down into to make sure you have room, we were there in a 40 mh and got in and out no problem.

Thanks for the contributions!

I've found an employment gig that will be ending soon. I haven't made any updates to teh map, but I hope I can sometime this week or the next. Those MT spots won't be really popular over the winter anyways!
