Boondocking to learn you camper
Boondocking is a big part of the style camping that we do. I have found that by Boondocking, you learn how to get the full use of you camper.
We hunt in the fall in the Missouri Breaks each year. It is a blast. By Bondocking , we are able to spend a week deep in the woods and it is not uncomon not to see anyone for the whole week. I have found that you are able to learn all the ins and outs of your camper and you also learn how to be conservitive with your water and supplies. You learn what to pack and what to leave at home. I have been camping for alot of years and have found that going out and boondocking is the best way for your family to enjoy each other.
So in closing, I say that you need to learn how to boondock to truly enjoy the camper you have and to enjoy your family. So go out this summer and try it. Enjoy the wide open space and remember that you need to use it and not let it sit in the yard.

mttraveller, Thank you for sharing your experiences. Back to basics is what was originally planned when folks first started RV'ing .... there wasn't a Wal*Mart on every corner!
1 other thing I might add is to bring out what you brought in!

I agree, boondocking sure does stimulate the creative mind.

I've been camping my whole life....in tents as a kid with the family, tents when I was a young buck, 3 travel trailers and 2 motorhomes now into RV camping....and I just had my first trip with full hookups 2 years ago. Felt really weird to be able to run the microwave any time...LOL. Gotta agree on the "boondocking is good" theory!

You are soooooo right. To find water and a 15 amp plug was uptown when I was a kid campin with Mom and Dad. Our camper didn't have a "Fancy water pump" either. It was "Arm/hand powered".... We used to call staying somewhere without any services other than a place to park "Dry Camping". Somewhere along the line folks decided to upgrade and call it "Boondocking". (I still call it dry camping though )

We love to get out and away from it all. We spent a couple of days at Carrizo Plains National Monument. The wild flowers were in bloom. We stayed in a medow covered in yellow flowers. Looked like an ocean of yellow with our RV floating in it. Carrizo Plains is southwest of Bakersfield.

After 4 years of off and on boondocking, I am still learning how to utilize all the systems. I do not think the learning ever stops. Now I am learning about the extreme fine points or how far can I push it.
