Yep, that was real camping. Three tours as 11B4Y. I'm now thankful for any place dry and no one shooting at me.

Not sure what the Y denoter is. P was for parachute qualified. Am told by others that the MOS for LRRP (long range recon patrol) was changed to infantry intelligence specialist. There was a quasi discussion on this at our 173rd LRRP/74th LRP/N Ranger reunion last summer.

In the greater scheme of life what difference does it make...it is just a label. FWIW, in a 45' MH I've "camped" out in the middle of nowhere, and I have "camped" in the back of a Walmart parking lot (and rest areas). I can't think of a single way that I operated differently in either case.

I guess if one is looking for an excuse to be offended in this world, though, it is pretty easy to find an excuse. Of course, JMHO

This all depends on what the meaning of "is" is!

Another life time ago I worked with a guy who always said, "Words have definitions, people have meanings!"

I worked with lawyers for a few years and learned that you can use just about any words you want to as long as you define them first, and that definition has a very short shelf life.

If you really want to offend someone ask them what they mean by that!

I have to remind my partner every now and then, "That may be what you meant, but, it is not what you said!"

I'm not offended, in fact I'm not bothered at all. But personally, if I'm out in the woods, I'm boondocking. If I'm in a Walmart or similar overnight situation, I call that hobo camping.

I find I am puzzled by the term "camping". I've been "camping".....and what we do in our motorhome does not resemble "camping". puzzling.

When we stop over night at a Cracker Barrel we always ask first and buy dinner or breakfast .

Don't know if it has been changed or not, but the "Y" in 11B4Y was Airborne/Pathfinder when I served 2 1/2 tours with them in Vietnam. I will check to see what it is now at my Pathfinder reunion in Sept at Ft Benning. We were called "Blackhats". "6mike" denotes leadership NCO. Another life ago!

I like boondocking and got my RV so that I have more options to stay in remote places without sacrificing comfort for my wife or dogs (or soon-to-be child). Unless you developed the term and had some kind of patent on the term and it affected your income, investment, or reputation, why on earth would you even care what others choose to call it or bring it up as an issue. People have different terms for a lot of things and it means what it means to them. To be "offended" is a little out there.There are way too many other things to worry about in life than what others call things.

There are a lot of terms , & many of those terms are used loosely , & some feel they have a very definite definition .
One of my favorite examples of this is the term muscle car.
Many people use this term to cover most any American made v8 powered hot rod made from the early 60s to & maybe thru the 70s
.
Others feels the term only applys to midsize cars that came from the factory with a large v8. Such as a big block Chevelle, GTO, Torino, Road Runner etc. by that strict definition, a Camaro, Mustang, Challenger , Nova etc , are not muscle cars, they put those in s different category called pony car.
Often times the lines are blurred.

Oh yea. I said hot rod. There's another one . Many feel that term is over used & that the term hot rod only applys to ore war era cars with souped up or replaced engines.
