According to onan website no load on a 6.5kw lp generator found in most diesel pushers with lp generators uses 1/2 gal/hr and full load 1.5 gal/hr no way it averages 1/3 gal/hr overall

Even if you went through 75% of your 52 gallons of propane, that is about 40 gallons. That is about 120 hours of runtime. That is 24 hours a day for 5 days straight.

Yet you say you used up 'most' of your propane and didn't run the generator 24 hours a day.
You usage figure is way low. The Generac unit burned about 1.5 gph under the load of two heat pumps running full blast. I don't have the figures anymore and Generac (or Genejunk depending on you feeling toward them) is out of the RV business business so I can't get them either.
Our present gen (12.5 Onan) burns less fuel from a much larger tank (150 gallons when full) then the old Generac did.
Our Onan burns
0.1 gph no load
0.48 gph half load
1.1 GPH at full load

Sorry, I missed it was a 6.5k, I was thinking of my 4K unit.

Diesel all the way. According to our original spec sheet the diesel was considered an upgrade. For what it's worth anyway.

While boondocking we use Aquahot for the hot water and heat.
The fridge runs on LP. If we want to watch TV we will run the genny
for approx. one hour/day. It runs on diesel.

We use the LP for cooking and since we have a 55 gal tank, this
gets topped up once each year.

If we wanted to watch TV all evening we would need to run the genny longer.
I guess it boils down to whether you enjoy the outdoors or are looking
for a cheap way to live.
